Major investment for sports and community initiatives announced for Meath
The €160,000 investment, drawn from the Dormant Accounts Fund, will support projects aimed at increasing participation in sport among people of all abilities and backgrounds, particularly those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged or living with a disability.
'I am delighted to see funding of €160,000 for sports and community initiatives in Meath,' Senator Linda Nelson Murray said, welcoming the news.
'This will open up new opportunities and sports for people right across the county.'
In Meath, the funding will be used to support Sports Hubs, Sports Inclusion Disability Projects, Urban Outdoor Adventure programmes, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.
It will also provide €30,000 for volunteer training and upskilling, something Senator Nelson Murray described as crucial to sustaining local sports.
'Our volunteers keep our initiatives running smoothly, and we must offer them the opportunity to get all the training they need,' the Meath West Senator said.
'Our sports clubs are at the heart of our community, bringing people of all backgrounds together. Through this funding, I hope even more people will be able to enjoy the benefits of sports participation and a healthy lifestyle.'
Nationally, more than €4 million from the Dormant Accounts Fund is being allocated to projects that help break down barriers to sports participation.
