Washougal Motocross 2025 preview: Top finishes, previous winners, historic results, who to watch
Nestled alongside a scenic river with Mount Hood peeking through the fir trees, Washougal MX Park is one of the prettiest tracks on the Pro Motocross calendar and the home of Round 25 of the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) schedule. Chase Sexton won three of the last four rounds on this track, but none of those had Jett Lawrence in the field. Jett swept the motos during his perfect rookie season of 2023, which raised the bar for Sexton. His wins in 2021 and 2022 came with one moto win, but he paved his way to the 2024 championship with his own sweep there. Last week at Spring Creek National in Millville, Minnesota, Sexton finished third in both motos. They were distant thirds to Jett and Hunter Lawrence, but Sexton is becoming increasingly comfortable on the bike and should provide an interesting storyline. Dan Beaver, Jett and Hunter created a competitive gap last week in Spring Creek, and they are the only two riders who have been in the top 10 during every moto this year. In fact, they swept the top five in the first 14 races while holding off fierce challenges by Eli Tomac, Justin Cooper, and Aaron Plessinger. Plessinger will be missing this week to heal from an illness that slowed him at RedBud and Spring Creek, but Sexton is more than capable of filling the gap. If Jett's perfect 2025 season so far was not enough of a fear-inducing fact this week, riders have to contemplate that in the 450 and 250 classes, Jett has finished worse than second only once — and that came in his first race there in 2021 on a 250. On the other hand, Tomac is heading in the wrong direction. He has not stood on a moto podium since Southwick. Worse still, he has not looked competitive in those races. The Motocross championship may be out of reach after his mechanical issue in RedBud, but if he is not careful, he will lose all momentum heading into the SMX Playoffs. 250 Notes Haiden Deegan has an extra spring to his steps this week, entering Washougal. He won the last two Nationals there with three moto wins and a second-place finish. If he can win a third consecutive National, he will be only the second rider to do so, following James Stewart (2007 - 2009), according to The GOAT Ricky Carmichael, Jeff Emig, and Mark Barnett all tried and failed to threepeat. There's something about being the hometown fan favorite, however, and Levi Kitchen needs to take advantage of that this week. He finished third overall in the first four rounds before pressing too hard at RedBud and Spring Creek to finish outside the top five, in seventh and sixth, respectively. Mikkel Haarup is a rider to watch this week after finishing fourth overall in back-to-back Nationals. He is 13th in combined SuperMotocross points and seems to be bound for the playoffs. Last week, Austin Forkner scored his first top-10 of the season, making him the 21st rider in 2025 to do so. All four Triumph riders (Forkner, Haarup, Jalek Swoll, and Jordon Smith) finished in the top 10. Washougal Motocross betting, predictions, odds, picks, lines: Justin Barcia worth a consideration to podium
After splitting the Spring Creek National motos with his brother, Hunter Lawrence, Jett Lawrence's (-824) raw opening odds for the Washougal (Washington) National changed only slightly. He opened at -800 for Spring Creek, but it will cost another $24 this week to win back $100. Until proven otherwise, Jett should be regarded as unbeatable. Hunter's (+432) odds also became slightly less attractive this week after winning the first race and finishing second in Moto 2. He had a little more than 40 points shaved off his line of +475 entering Spring Creek, but it bears noting that his three-race average of +452 remains significantly better than the three rounds previous, when he averaged +850. The Lawrence brothers were in a class of their own in Minnesota, but the data pool is too shallow to predict that Hunter will consistently challenge Jett. That raises questions about Hunter's minus odds for a podium, which opened at -285. If a bettor places an outright win bet on Hunter, they may as well cover it with another wager on the head-to-head matchup between the brothers. Jett is heavily favored at -650 over Hunter's +392. Chase Sexton (+580) was best-in-class in the Spring Creek National, although he ran a distant third in both motos. Consistency on the track ping-ponged his odds this week. He opened at +590 for his Pro Motocross return at RedBud, sagged to +763 for Spring Creek, and rebounded at Washougal. For reference, Sexton opened the season at +499. Now that his chances of winning the championship have all but evaporated, a lot of wind has gone out of Eli Tomac's (+1705) sails. Even before his mechanical failure two rounds ago, which practically eliminated him from contention, his odds slipped from a three-round average of +263 to +833 for RedBud. He fell further for Spring Creek to +1569, and that trend continued into Washougal's 17/1 handicap. Pride is a powerful motivation, however, and that could be worth some couch cushion money. Tomac's podium odds of +161 do not provide much juice for the squeeze, but there may be another wager worth considering. Tomac matches up against Sexton in a head-to-head battle this week, with Sexton favored at -229 to Tomac's +167. The podium odds provide some of the most interesting considerations this week. Justin Cooper (+3949, overall win) ranks fifth on the handicap chart this week with a line of +265 to finish among the top three. He gets the traders' nod over RJ Hampshire (+12887) because of season-long consistency, but Hampshire has come on strong in recent rounds with fourth-place results overall in the past two weeks. Given his long outright win odds of 129/1, intrepid gamblers might even want to slip some discretionary money his way. Justin Barcia (+12887) scored a surprise top-five at Spring Creek. With Cooper Webb out for knee surgery and Aaron Plessinger out for illness this week, Barcia's +2073 for a podium is worth a second look. Tom Vialle to skip Pro Motocross Washougal National, joining Aaron Plessinger and Julien Beaumer
Red Bull KTM announced Tom Vialle will skip Round 8 of the 2025 Pro Motocross season in Washougal, Washington, following a crash in the Spring Creek National that left him unable to ride with soreness in his knee and shoulder. 'It's definitely unfortunate to announce that Tom Vialle will be sitting out this weekend's race,' said Ian Harrison, Team Manager, in a news release. 'It's a long and demanding season for our riders, and we've been extremely fortunate up to this point to have had a full roster through the majority of Supercross and Pro Motocross. 'Of course, we love seeing our entire team out on the track representing the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing program, but our riders' health and safety always come first. We fully support Tom's decision to take the weekend off so he can focus on finishing the season strong and continuing to fight for podiums.' Vialle crashed on Lap 1 of Moto 2 in Spring Creek, was slow to rise, and failed to mount up for the second race. He was scored 14th overall on the strength of his sixth-place finish. He was also outside the top 10 in the previous round at RedBud with a 13th-place overall result. Dan Beaver, The Red Bull team has been plagued by injury in 2025, with all four of their riders affected. The announcement came one day after the team announced 450 class rider Aaron Plessinger would also skip the round due to illness. Earlier this month, Red Bull announced that Julien Beaumer would sit out Spring Creek and Washougal to heal from an injured wrist, which will leave only Chase Sexton to represent the team in Washington this weekend. Sexton missed Rounds 2 through 5, returning two weeks ago for the RedBud National in Buchanan, Michigan. As with Plessinger and Beaumer, Vialle will take advantage of two off weeks following Washougal in order to be at his best for the final three rounds of the season, which begins with the Ironman National on August 9. Motocross 2025 250 results, highlights, finish at Spring Creek: Haiden Deegan, Jeremy Martin split motos
Haiden Deegan fought through the effects of a deeply bruised leg suffered at RedBud to hold off Jo Shimoda for the Moto 1 victory, and Jeremy Martin ended his career on a high note by winning Moto 2 of the Spring Creek National in Millville, Minnesota. In Moto 1, Deegan led early before he lost some pace in the middle stage of the race. Shimoda pounced, but he did not create enough separation from the 250 Motocross leader and held the top spot for only one lap. Deegan's determination in that moto made the difference in the overall finish as well, because of the three-point separation between first and second. Deegan was awarded the overall victory by two points over Martin. Click here for a recap of Spring Creek There were no complaints from Martin, however, who was making the final start of his career. He knew he would end on a high note the moment he earned the holeshot in Moto 1; the roar of the hometown crowd told him as much. Martin gave up the lead to Shimoda on the first lap and second to Deegan on Lap 7, but he determined to hang onto his podium position and finished third in the first race. After earning the holeshot again in Moto 2, he lost the top spot to Shimoda before battling back to score an easy victory over Deegan. Any one of these accomplishments would have made Martin ecstatic, as he added a moto win and overall podium finish to his holeshots. Shimoda failed to back up last week's dominant performance in Buchanan, Michigan, with a third-place overall finish in Millville. He admitted to having a little help with his pass on Deegan in Moto 1, suggesting a lapped rider kept Deegan from taking the preferred groove. Shimoda battled Deegan in the closing laps of Moto 1, but did not have the pace to regain the lead once he lost. Fading to fourth in the second race, he vowed to keep working to close the distance. Relive Moto 1 It is only a matter of time before Mikkel Haarup earns his first overall podium. He finished fourth in the past two motos, but needed a little help at RedBud. His eighth- and fifth-place finishes were respectable, but his elevation to fourth overall was as much a factor of Deegan's and Levi Kitchen's misfortune. That was not true at Spring Creek, where Haarup swept the top five, finishing fourth in Moto 1 and third in Moto 2. This is only a preview of things to come, Haarup said after the race. Garrett Marchbanks rounded out the top five with seventh-place results in both motos. This was Marchbank's fourth top-five of 2025, but he came close on two other occasions with results of sixth in the season opener at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, and seventh at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts. Triumph Factory Racing is beginning to make a lot of noise by placing all four of their riders in the top 10. In addition to the fourth-place finish for Haarup, Austin Forkner (9-11) finished eighth overall, Jalek Swoll (16-5) was ninth, and Jordon Smith (15-8) was 10th.
