World's oldest horticultural society to host spring showcase in York village

AN ANCIENT society will be holding its annual show this weekend in York. The Ancient Society of York Florists will be holding its Spring Show at Wigginton Recreation Hall on Saturday April 19. The society is the oldest horticultural society in the world, having been formed 257 years ago, and includes classes for daffodils, tulips, auriculas, primulas, potted plants, floral themed art, baking, handicrafts and photography. There is a total of 122 different awards with highlights including the Daffodil Society Bronze Medal, the Leo Dixon Trophy for Auriculas, and the Pamela Inns Memorial Trophy for floral art. The show opens at 11am and finishes at 3 with the full schedule of event available on the society website:

Since 2017, Erie's Public Schools has hosted an entrepreneurship program for seventh graders. Friday, students got to show off the skills they picked up and some project proposals of their own. Erie County DOH reports no new measles cases, tracing continues Students pitched their ideas for projects that could address some real-life challenges including recycling, pollution, safety, homelessness and more. We spoke to two students about what they took away from Friday's event. 'I learned in order to be an entrepreneur, it takes dedication and hard work but also a great mindset. You don't fail backwards, you have to fail forward,' said Charles Raiford Jr., a middle school student. Erie Art Museum debuts new works at annual Spring Show 'There's just so many problems out there that are not solved right now that could be solved. There's so many opportunities for people,' said Trenton Van Cleve, a middle school student. Raiford Jr.'s project was an accessory to prevent students, teachers and parents from losing pencils and Van Cleve's was about a seatbelt that would prevent a car from moving until it was buckled. Erie Art Museum debuts new works at annual Spring Show

The Erie Art Museum is showcasing some new artwork to launch its spring season. The museum hosted its 102nd annual Spring Show at the gallery on East 5th Street. Erie's Public Schools new superintendent starts strategic plan visiting each school 67 New art pieces will have a temporary home at the art museum, highlighting artistic talents in sculpting, photography and painting. Five winners were given a $500 cash prize for their artwork, and the museum's executive director said there's no shortage of good art in this showcase. City of Erie announces $4 million investment in local parks 'We had over 600 applications for this show. We always have an outside juror, and the juror this year selected 67 pieces in a wide range of photography, painting, sculpture. So, we're here tonight to celebrate that,' said Laura Domencic, executive director of the Erie Art Museum. The spring season artwork will be showcased in the art museum until August 10.
