Russia's Kraschennikov Volcano Erupts for 1st Time in 600 Years

Rana Atef Kraschennikov Volcano, in Kamchatka Peninsula in far eastern Russia, erupted for the first time in 600 years. This marks a rare geological event that may be linked to the powerful earthquake that struck the region last week, according to Russian media outlets on Sunday. 🚨 KAMCHATKA'S ANCIENT VOLCANO AWAKENS AFTER 500 YEARS The Krasheninnikov volcano erupted on August 3, sending 5-6 km ash plumes over Kamchatka Last active in the 15th century, its ash now spreads 75 km east, threatening air traffic — Sputnik (@SputnikInt) August 3, 2025 Olga Gerina, head of the Kamchatka Volcano Response Team, stated, 'This is the first historically confirmed eruption of the Kraschennikov Volcano in six centuries.' She added that the volcanic activity may have been influenced by the earthquake that occurred last Wednesday, which also triggered tsunami warnings in distant areas like French Polynesia and Chile. Russian authorities also noted that the eruption was followed by increased activity at the Klyuchevskoy Volcano, the most active volcano in Kamchatka. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that an ash plume rose to a height of 6,000 meters into the sky. They also mentioned that the Kraschennikov Volcano, which stands at 1,856 meters tall, had its activity classified at the "orange level" for aviation, signaling a potential danger to air traffic in the region. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

A powerful 8.8‑magnitude earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on July 29, 2025, the strongest quake in the region since 1952, triggering tsunami waves that swept through coastal areas of the Kuril Islands, Hokkaido, and prompted warnings across the Pacific, including Hawaii. A video circulated online captures tsunami waves surging into Severo‑Kurilsk on Paramushir Island, inundating shorelines, sweeping away small buildings and vessels, and flooding port areas. 🚨🌊 WATCH: Tsunami hits Severo-Kurilsk coast 📹 Social media users are sharing videos showing tsunami waves striking the coastal zone of Severo-Kurilsk, Russia, after a powerful earthquake off the Kamchatka coast. — Sputnik (@SputnikInt) July 30, 2025 Local officials reported waves up to 3–4 meters (10–13 feet) in height. Though distant from Russia, Hokkaido in Japan also recorded significant pan-Pacific impact, with tsunami waves between 40–60 cm (1.3–2 ft) in places like Hamanaka and Iwate, and Tokyo Bay observed smaller surges. Authorities instructed over 900,000 residents to evacuate coastal zones across Japan. In Hawaii, initial tsunami waves were measured at about 1.8 meters (6 ft) near Midway Atoll, prompting evacuation orders, sirens, and disrupted travel during rush hour. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center extended alerts to coastal zones including Alaska, California, Oregon, and beyond.

Putin's Banter With Malaysian PM Over 'Second Wife' Goes Viral

Last Updated: During the meet, Putin asked the Malaysian PM a cheeky riddle during the tour of the Kremlin Palace. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared a light-hearted moment by joking about marriage which had the entire hall bursting in laughter. The Russian leader recalled the incident during a joint press conference with Anwar. Ibrahim met Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on Thursday, the first official visit by a Malaysian leader to Russia in nearly two decades. During the meet, Putin asked the Malaysian PM a cheeky riddle during the tour of the Kremlin Palace. While showing Anwar the grand St. Andrew's Hall, Putin pointed out three thrones and asked a question to Ibrahim. 'There are three thrones; one of them is for the Czar, the second one is for his wife, and what do you think the third one is for?" 🇷🇺🇲🇾PUTIN'S ROYAL RIDDLE: HOW DID MALAYSIA'S PM CRACK THE CODE? — Sputnik (@SputnikInt) May 14, 2025 When asked who the third throne was for, Anwar cheekily replied, 'For the second wife!"—prompting laughter from both leaders. Anwar later clarified it was a trick question and the throne was meant for the mother. Putin laughed and said, 'I hope he is not angry at me for saying these things," as the hall, filled with hundreds of attendees, erupted in laughter—including Ibrahim himself, who couldn't resist joining in. While the light-hearted exchange grabbed attention, the meeting also held significant diplomatic weight, strengthening Malaysia-Russia trade relations, particularly in energy and defence sectors. Reportedly, Ibrahim discussed the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 with the Russian President days after a UN report found Russia responsible for the disaster. A UN aviation council found this week that Russia was responsible for the downing of MH17, which was shot down over eastern Ukraine in 2014 during fighting between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces. Moscow has rejected the International Civil Aviation Organization Council's (ICAO) findings on the crash that killed all 298 passengers and crew, calling the ruling biased. China's Xi stands beside Putin as Russia Showcases Iranian Drones at Victory Day Parade

President Vladimir Putin has led Russia's Victory Day commemorations with a parade in Red Square and heightened security after days of Ukrainian strikes targeting the capital. China's Xi Jinping joined Putin as Russia showcased the Iranian-made Shahed-136 drone for the first time during the annual military parade. 🇷🇺🇨🇳Putin & Xi spotted chatting during Victory Day parade in Moscow What do you think they said? — Sputnik (@SputnikInt) May 9, 2025 Russia has always been an 'impenetrable barrier' to Nazism, Russophobia, and anti-Semitism, and will continue to fight against them, Putin has said, addressing the parade. This year's event marks the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. 'Russia has been and will remain an impenetrable barrier to Nazism, Russophobia, and anti-Semitism,' Putin stated, as quoted by Russia Today (RT). 'We will continue to fight the atrocities committed by those who promote these destructive ideas. Truth and justice are on our side,' he added. The Russian strongman went on to say that the entire country supports the troops taking part in the military operation against the Kiev regime, which Moscow has long accused of adhering to Nazi ideology. Putin noted that Russia remembers the lessons of World War II, and will not allow the atrocities committed during those years to be repeated. 'We are all united by feelings of joy and sorrow, pride and gratitude, admiration for the generation that defeated Nazism at the cost of millions of lives and won freedom and peace for all mankind,' he stated. 'We faithfully preserve the memory of these triumphant events and, like our ancestors, celebrate the holiday as our own – the most important for the entire nation.' Iranian Drones Meanwhile, a column of trucks carrying various combat drones took part in the Victory Day parade for the first time, apparently because of their wide scale use in Ukraine. According to Russia's state broadcaster Channel One, drones on display included the Iranian-designed Shahed-136—renamed 'Geran-2' in Russia—and the domestically produced Lancet drone. These unmanned aerial vehicles have played a critical role in Moscow's military operations in Ukraine. Situation with Ukraine A unilateral, three-day ceasefire was announced by Russia to coincide with the lavish 80th anniversary event, which Ukraine rejected as a 'theatrical show'. Kyiv has labelled the truce as a farce, accusing Russia of launching thousands of attacks since it came into force at midnight on Wednesday. Russia says it has observed the ceasefire and accuses Ukraine of hundreds of violations. In the hours before the ceasefire, Ukrainian drone strikes prompted airport closures and disruption for thousands of air passengers in Russia. Heavy security and restrictions were in place in the center of Moscow on Friday as Russia marked the victory over Nazi Germany.
