The Latest Update On ‘Squid Game: America' On Netflix
Squid Game Squid Game season 3 has ended, but if you think that's the last you're going to see from the series, I wouldn't put money on it. And I don't just mean Netflix's ill-conceived game show. Rather, the end of the Squid Game finale (spoilers) has the Frontman in America delivering billions to Gi-hun's daughter. As he leaves, randomly, in an alley he sees none other than actress Cate Blanchett playing the very Korean Ddakji game and slapping a man that she apparently is trying to recruit for an American version of Squid Game. But the creator of the series, Hwang Dong-hyuk, did not say this meant a US-based version was coming. The idea of this scene is very weird, contextually, as the founder of Squid Game died in season 1, and now the Frontman runs the entire game, except he doesn't seem to know about this version. Or maybe the look on his face says he does? It's all very hard to parse, but like many things about the season finale, it doesn't make much sense. But now the question is whether or not this was a true teaser for a Squid Game: America spinoff, a sort of MCU post-credits scene implying where things will head in the future. I believe that some people are convinced this is a reality, and I've even seen a fake Squid Game Universe timeline being circulated on social media. But the reality is more complicated. Squid Game A Squid Game: America series was in fact brought up a while ago. This is still technically the 'latest' news on an American Squid Game, despite being all the way back in October 2024, as we have heard nothing from Netflix about it since. The original report from Deadline relayed that David Fincher was developing a new English-language Squid Game series. This would not be a remake of the original series; this would be a new story, set in the US. It also comes after an even older story that Fincher may have done a Squid Game movie for Netflix. But the last report was a new show. That is, in fact, the last report. We don't know if the Blanchett cameo and the new game reveal are definitely going to lead to a new series, but creator Hwang Dong-hyuk recently told EW 'I'm not trying to say that I'm going to close the door to spinoffs or sequels altogether because they say never say never.' His main point of discussion was an idea he had about a Gi-hun show that took place between seasons 1 and 2, which would not feature an actual game. And it's likely that if there was an American series, it would be done by someone else, even if Hwang was consulting. Someone like Fincher. Squid Game Is this likely? The last big news involving David Fincher was that he was directing a Brad Pitt-starring sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino's original film. That's still casting and spooling up and will not be out for a while. Though Fincher 'developing' a Squid Game: America show would not be directing the whole thing, almost certainly. I absolutely believe Netflix is going to try to make this happen and not let go of Squid Game. Season 1 has not been surpassed as the #1 show in Netflix history. Will there be Squid Game 4? All we know about Lee Jung Jae starrer's future as season 3 finale leaves fans speculating
The South Korean phenomenon, Squid Game, came to an end on June 27 with the release of season 3, which saw a never-before-seen player take home the prize of 4.56 billion KRW. It was not Lee Jung Jae's Seong Gi Hun or Im Siwan's Lee Myung Gi who were left at the last stop of the final game, but the latter's baby with Jo Yu Ri's Kim Jun Hee. As the season came to an end, with a surprise cameo from Cate Blanchett, who can be seen taking over Gong Yoo's The Salesman role following his death, questions about a Korean Season 4 have been raised; however, there are no official plans for that yet. What is Squid Game: America, and will it be next season 4 for the Korean show? Previously, it was announced that David Fincher, the man behind Fight Club, Gone Girl, and many western hits, will be taking on the English-language adaptation of the hit Korean series. While no release date has been set, it is said that the filming for the USA version of Squid Game will begin this December. It is not known whether the story will resume from where it's left off in the Korean original or whether a total remake will be done. With Cate Blanchett's cameo, both seem just as possible as the other for Squid Game: America. The creator of Squid Game, director Hwang Dong Hyuk, previously addressed plans for a spin-off based on his story. Talking at the 2025 Gotham Television Awards, he shared, "If I make a spin-off, it will be a story happening between seasons 1 and 2. There was a three years gap between seasons 1 and 2, so I want to show what they did for those times." So it seems unlikely that any of our favorite original characters will make a return in Squid Game: America, but fans of the franchise can hope that the writer goes ahead with a spin-off, revealing more about Seong Gi Hun's life after winning the prize in the first season.

Squid Game season 3 ending explained In the final episode of Squid Game season 3, the characters head to Los Angeles, where the frontman hands off Player 456's belongings and gold card. Cate Blanchett then makes an appearance playing the role of The Recruiter. She was seen instructing a homeless person about playing the game of Ddakji. If he lost, he would be slapped brutally in the face. Speaking of the Netflix show ending and Blanchett's cameo, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed to the media portal, 'We shot our parts separately with just a camera going back and forth. In the end, we parted ways without even saying hi.' He added, 'I actually saw her practicing it for quite a while on set.' The actor continued to say, 'The game in Korea ended (spoiler) with Gi-hun's sacrifice, but I wanted to show that the game was still ongoing elsewhere and that the world had not changed that much. We wanted to say: this isn't really over. Plus, if it was totally wrapped up, our fans would be sad, and we wouldn't have a reason to come back.'
