Chamundi Hill sees overwhelming crowd on Aashada Friday
Mysuru: Chamundi Hill witnessed an overwhelming influx of devotees on the third Aashada Friday, with over two lakh visitors arriving by afternoon. This led to long queues, exhausted pilgrims and serious crowd control issues. Thousands of devotees, including the elderly and children, were seen standing in serpentine queues for hours under the sun, many visibly distressed. The devotees who came in for Dharma Darshana at 3.30am had Darshana only after 11am. The situation was particularly tense at the VIP entrance, where police struggled to manage the rush, and unauthorised entry by non-VIPs led to confusion and congestion. The arrangements drew sharp criticism, with devotees lashing out at authorities for poor planning, lack of basic facilities and inadequate crowd management. In a dramatic development, city police commissioner Seema Latkar, accompanied by deputy commissioner Lakshmikant Reddy, visited the hilltop and questioned Sri Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority secretary Roopa. Following mounting reports of mismanagement, DC Reddy conducted an emergency inspection along with senior police officials. He acknowledged the hardships faced by devotees. "By Friday afternoon, nearly 2 lakh devotees gathered, which led to temporary disruption. Those waiting in queues suffered inconvenience, but immediate corrective steps were taken, and the situation was brought under control." Despite the chaos, darshan continued throughout the day, with many devotees finally able to catch a glimpse of Goddess Chamundeshwari after hours of waiting.

Yaduveer inspects facilities atop Chamundi Hills ahead of Aashada Friday
Mysuru: A day ahead of the second Friday in the Hindu month of Aashada, during which over 1.5 lakh devotees are expected to throng the Chamundi Hills to have darshan of Goddess Chamundeshwari at Sri Chamundeshwari Temple, Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar visited the pilgrimage site and inspected the facilities provided to the devotees. Following public complaints of mismanagement during the first Aashada Friday on June 27, the MP reviewed the arrangements at the temple and inspected facilities in place for devotees. His inspection covered areas designated for Rs 2,000 special darshan tickets, Rs 300 tickets, and general darshan. Yaduveer held discussions with Sri Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority secretary Roopa and instructed officials to immediately address the issues raised by devotees. He expressed concern over the Rs 2,000 ticket system, which has drawn criticism from the public. "Darshan of the Goddess must be accessible to all, not just to those who can afford special tickets," he said. He emphasised the need to revise the ticketing system and ensure fairness and inclusivity in temple access. While acknowledging that crowding and minor inconveniences are natural during peak seasons, Yaduveer urged the authorities to improve arrangements and ensure a smoother experience for all pilgrims.
