11 lakh meals, 4.5 lakh beverages, 3.3 lakh devotees and a leopard – Lord Venkateswara temple opens for summer

Tirumala's Lord Venkateswara temple is witnessing an extraordinary rush this summer, with 3,28,702 devotees having darshan in just four days, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the temple, has said. On May 25, a record number of 91,538 devotees had darshan in over 18 hours. On Tuesday, TTD officials and the state forest department scrambled to ensure the safety of devotees who walk up the Alipiri footpath through the forested hills to the temple, after a leopard was spotted along the route. Officials said that in spite of the scare, devotees did not hesitate, and that adequate arrangements have been made by posting guards to ensure their safety. On Tuesday, TTD executive officer J Syamala Rao held a meeting with the TTD forest department, the state forest department, and others on how to manage leopards straying into the path of pilgrims. Moreover, in view of the ongoing summer vacation, TTD has made extensive arrangements to ensure the smooth movement and darshan of devotees, its joint executive officer V Veerabrahmam said. Srivari Seva Volunteers posted at the site are distributing food and beverages to devotees. The arrangements mean an additional 10,000 devotees can have darshan each day as compared to regular days. Between Thursday and Sunday, when 3,28,702 devotees had darshan of Sri Venkateswara, the Annaprasadam department served 10,98,170 meals and 4,55,160 beverages (tea/coffee/milk/buttermilk) to the devotees. As many as 1,52,587 devotees tonsured their hair, and 12,172 availed medical services provided by the TTD medical department at various locations in Tirumala. The health department is maintaining a supply of drinking water and cleanliness, with 2,150 sanitary workers, supervisors, inspectors, and unit officers deployed in three shifts. In view of the upcoming annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple, scheduled to be held from June 2 to June 10, TTD executive officer J Syamala Rao instructed officials to make elaborate arrangements, keeping in mind the summer conditions. He emphasised the need for facilities such as shade pandals, whitewashing, and paintings to enhance the temple's festive look. On Tuesday, in view of the increased movement of wild cats in the area, a review meeting was held at the TTD office. Syamala Rao said it was decided to deploy additional forces. 'More measures are being taken to ensure the Alipiri footpath is a no-leopard zone, which include camera traps, bio-fences, net-guns, high flash torches, and pepper sprays,' an official said. In August 2023, a six-year-old girl who got separated from her parents while walking along the Alipiri stairs was found dead the next day. Two months earlier, a three-year-old boy was also attacked by a wild animal on the footpath route, but survived the attack.

Heavy summer rush at Tirumala

Tirumala: Tirumala has experienced a significant surge in pilgrim numbers over the past week. In response, the TTD has implemented extensive arrangements for Annaprasadam and drinking water for devotees waiting in Vaikuntham compartments, NG sheds, and external queue lines. TTD to expand Srivari Seva globally

Tirumala: In response to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's directive, TTD Executive Officer J Syamala Rao has developed an action plan to expand Srivari Seva internationally. On Saturday, a virtual meeting was held at TTD administration building in Tirupati, connecting the EO with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from 14 countries. The EO highlighted that Srivari Sevaks from across India, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, already provide invaluable services to devotees. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy seeks 800 more EV buses for Hyderabad

South New Delhi/Hyderabad, May 24 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has requested Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy to allocate an additional 800 electric buses (EVs) to Hyderabad under the PM-E Drive scheme. The request comes in light of the growing public transport needs of the city. In a meeting held in Delhi on Saturday, CM Revanth Reddy highlighted that 2,000 EV buses had already been sanctioned for Hyderabad. However, considering the increasing urban demand, he urged the Centre to extend the allocation by 800 more buses. The Chief Minister also proposed adopting a hybrid Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model to ensure that Telangana RTC drivers and mechanics are involved in operating and maintaining these buses, thus preserving local employment. Revanth Reddy further pointed out the successful retrofitting of a diesel RTC bus in Hyderabad, which is already running on electric power. He appealed to the Union Minister to support the retrofitting of more existing diesel buses to EVs, promoting both sustainability and cost-efficiency, an official statement said. TTD adopting technology in providing enhanced services to devotees, says EO Syamala Rao

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is adopting technology in providing enhanced services to devotees in a transparent and efficient way, says Executive Officer J. Syamala Rao. Addressing the media after the 'Dial your EO' programme on Saturday, Mr. Syamala Rao listed the various tech-upgrades introduced by TTD under the instructions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, which included Artificial Intelligence, upgradation of Facility Monitoring Systems, WhatsApp Governance, Aadhaar integration, kiosk-based services, and partnership with Google to enhance transparency and efficiency. A WhatsApp-based feedback system had also been introduced to gather real-time suggestions from the devotees, he said. 'The TTD is working on refining the Srivari Seva system by introducing a Group Leader (system) to improve the voluntary service. Plans are also underway to involve professionals from various sectors to enhance the quality of Srivari Seva and encourage more NRI devotees to take part in it,' he said. Other initiatives included reintroduction of the sacred 'Tirunamam' service at 18 locations in Tirumala, establishment of a town planning department to coordinate and executive various developmental work at temples in Tiruchanoor, Amaravati, and Vontimitta, besides taking up construction of temples in various States and Union Territories across the country. The TTD had also renamed 42 out of 45 rest houses in Tirumala with spiritually significant names, constituted a five-member Vaikhanasa Agama advisory committee to oversee the discharge of rituals inside the hill temple, and invited renowned agencies to undertake the responsibility of managing major canteens and Janata canteens in Tirumala to provide quality food to the devotees. The devotees, who took part in the monthly interactive programme, heaped encomiums on the TTD services and improvement in the quality of prasadams.
