The Scottish seaside hidden gem village that was crowned 'most picturesque'

The Daily Record is back with our first Village of the Week of June. Each week, we look across Scotland for a town or village that is truly special, and for the first of the summer season we have chosen a destination unlike any other. St Abbs is a small fishing village located near Eyemouth along the Berwickshire coast. The Scottish Borders village was first known as Coldingham Shore, before its name was changed during the 1890s. As reported by the Daily Record, the village was previously crowned the "most picturesque" village in Scotland. Photography experts at ParrotPrint also named the destination as among the most scenic in the whole of the UK. St Abbs is most famous for its dramatic coastal scenery and magnificent cliff-top views. It features idyllic fishermen's cottages, while its pristine waters provide the perfect backdrop for beautiful photographs. The village is situated near the St Abbs Head National Nature Reserve, which consists of around 200 acres. The reserve is famous for its seabird colonies, with guillemots, kittiwakes, razorbills, and many more calling it home. In addition to the St Abbs Head National Nature Reserve, other top beauty spots in the area include St Abbs Harbour and the St Abbs Head Lighthouse. The former hosts the weekly St Abbs Market on Fridays where visitors can pick up artisan goods and homemade treats, while the St Abbs Head Lighthouse dates back to the 19th century. St Abbs is also known for its connections to Hollywood, with the village being used as a filming location for both blockbuster movies and music videos. It can be seen as New Asgard in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, as well as Harry Styles' video for his 2019 single 'Adore You'. Meanwhile, when it comes to food, one of the best eateries in the village is Ebbcarrs Cafe. Here, customers can enjoy everything from local seafood to sandwiches and baked treats. Keep reading for a few photographs showcasing some of St Abbs' highlights. For additional travel inspiration, a selection of the Daily Record's past Towns and Villages of the Week can be found here:
