The Scottish seaside hidden gem village that was crowned 'most picturesque'
St Abbs is a small fishing village located near Eyemouth along the Berwickshire coast. The Scottish Borders village was first known as Coldingham Shore, before its name was changed during the 1890s.
As reported by the Daily Record, the village was previously crowned the "most picturesque" village in Scotland. Photography experts at ParrotPrint also named the destination as among the most scenic in the whole of the UK.
St Abbs is most famous for its dramatic coastal scenery and magnificent cliff-top views. It features idyllic fishermen's cottages, while its pristine waters provide the perfect backdrop for beautiful photographs.
The village is situated near the St Abbs Head National Nature Reserve, which consists of around 200 acres. The reserve is famous for its seabird colonies, with guillemots, kittiwakes, razorbills, and many more calling it home.
In addition to the St Abbs Head National Nature Reserve, other top beauty spots in the area include St Abbs Harbour and the St Abbs Head Lighthouse. The former hosts the weekly St Abbs Market on Fridays where visitors can pick up artisan goods and homemade treats, while the St Abbs Head Lighthouse dates back to the 19th century.
St Abbs is also known for its connections to Hollywood, with the village being used as a filming location for both blockbuster movies and music videos. It can be seen as New Asgard in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, as well as Harry Styles' video for his 2019 single 'Adore You'.
Meanwhile, when it comes to food, one of the best eateries in the village is Ebbcarrs Cafe. Here, customers can enjoy everything from local seafood to sandwiches and baked treats.

"I'm glad he was kind enough to say that, and even more glad I listened. I've never forgotten it. "Life is so short. RIP Gary Little" Rob Kane wrote: "Scottish comedy and the world have lost a legend today. Gary Little I could rhyme off hundreds of stories of the times we've spent backstage and in car journeys together, the big man's stern gaze, his lack of tolerance for people over running on their time on stage, but most of all his warmth and empathy." Ronnie Black wrote: "am in total disbelief tonight that a genuine legend of Scottish Comedy and great guy has died today whilst climbing mountains. "Gary Little is a name well known in comedy and the North of Glasgow. "I had the pleasure of watching Gary and Sean Lock on the opening weekend of Glee. I will never forget Gary spoke for 20 minutes about a frying pan. Never knew frying pans were so funny. "I couldn't post this without sharing what I believe to be one of the best pieces of visual comedy I have ever seen. "Gary the Scottish Comedy Forum: is broken hearted tonight. "RIP mate." Jo Caulfield also paid tribute on Facebook: "What terribly sad news. Gary Little was a great comic and an amazing person to spend time with. We are all poorer for losing you Gary. Steven Ward added "That's a shame, Gary was a really sound guy when I met him and funny too."

Glasgow Cineworld closing date set as staff to be made redundant
The closing date of the world's tallest cinema on Glasgow's Renfrew Street has been set. The world's tallest cinema based in Glasgow will be shutting its doors next month. Employees at the Renfrew Street Cineworld were sent letters in July saying the cinema was 'likely to close' and the situation is out of Cineworld's control. In a recent decision from the landlord, the Renfrew Street cinema will officially close on September 28, reports Glasgow Live. In a letter sent to employees this week, staff were told that their roles were "at risk". Part of it reads: "Cineworld has received correspondence from the landlord of our Glasgow Renfrew Street Cinema advising that they are serving us notice to quit the building. "This therefore means that your roles will shortly be placed at risk of redundancy, as a result of this notice." During the letter, it states that employees will now enter a period of "consultation". It ends with: "I appreciate that today's announcement may be upsetting and your line manager or I will be available to support you throughout this process". A spokesperson for Cineworld confirmed the closure, however, said that their Silverburn cinema will undergo its most "ambitious transformation yet". A spokesperson said: "Following the landlord's recent decision, Cineworld Glasgow Renfrew Street will close on September 28, 2025. As we say goodbye to Renfrew Street, Cineworld Silverburn is undergoing its most ambitious transformation yet – with major investment bringing a 4DX screen and a full upgrade of every 2D auditorium to luxury recliner seating. "We can't wait for you to experience the new Cineworld Silverburn, for the most superior entertainment experience in Glasgow." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Scotland's 'Balamory town' where homes are affordable as iconic series returns
Property prices are actually lower than the national average. Scotland's seaside towns and villages all benefit from coastal views, and are all wonderful places to live. However, there is nowhere in the country quite like Tobermory. The capital town of the Isle of Mull, Tobermory was originally built as a fishing port in the late 18th century. Today, it is a popular tourist destination and is considered among the prettiest ports in the UK. Tobermory is perhaps most famous as the location of the beloved 2000s children's television series Balamory. The town's colourful seafront buildings feature prominently in the show. As reported by the Daily Record, the BBC has announced the return of Balamory after its last episode aired in June 2005. New episodes of the programme will debut next year, with original stars reprising their roles. Julie Wilson Nimmo, Andrew Agnew, Kim Tserkezie, and Julie Cadzow are set to return as Miss Hoolie, PC Plum, Penny Pocket, and Edie McCredie respectively. The revival will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer and CBeebies in 2026. In anticipation of Balamory's comeback, property experts at Sell House Fast have revealed how much homes in the area cost. They also investigated how prices have changed in the years since the show has been on air. According to Sell House Fast, the average cost of a detached house in Tobermory is £300,083. Meanwhile, semi-detached houses are priced at £255,000 on average. The experts also found that most homes sold in Tobermory over the past year were flats. These cost an average of £139,750. Overall, in the past year, property in Tobermory sold for an average of £221,947. This is slightly lower than the national Scottish average of £223,657. Sell House Fast stated that property prices in the town peaked in 2008. According to the experts, this indicates that the popularity of Balamory had "little impact" on prices, as the show ended years earlier. Jack Malnick, MD of Sell House Fast, commented: "With the filming of Balamory returning to the vibrant Scottish seaside town of Tobermory, residents and prospective buyers will be wondering if the show will impact the housing market. "Whilst homes can indeed increase in value when they feature in TV shows, it isn't always the case—and I don't see it being the case here. "House prices in Tobermory peaked in 2008, years after the show originally aired, which suggests that it had little impact on property prices in the town. "However, the show's return may well lead to an increase in a demand for short term accommodation in the town. Balamory had two million weekly viewers at its peak, and if the reboot has the same success, many young fans may want to visit the real-life town, offering an increase in tourist revenue and leading to more homeowners to capitalise on this demand by renting out their properties as holiday homes." For those looking to visit the charming town, in terms of holiday lets, there are plenty of options to choose from around Tobermory. One of these is a "beautiful bothy with sea views" that sleeps up to two guests, which can be booked for £375 for two nights through Airbnb. The traditional stone cottage sits high up in the town, with views out over the sea from the garden patio. Inside, there is a double bed "in a cosy nook" and a wood-burner for chilly evenings. Elsewhere, there is a flat to rent in one of the iconic buildings along Tobermory's waterfront. Also available through Airbnb, it can be booked for £280 for three nights. Sleeping up to two visitors, the apartment features one bedroom with an en-suite shower room. There is also a large living room, kitchen, and dining room at front of the building that offers "fantastic views" according to the listing.
