The council planning to build around 33 affordable homes for social rent on the site of the former St Brigid's Primary School on Newton Drive. The public consultation is due to take place this Thursday, May 15, at the Newmains and St Brigid's Community Hub which gives locals the opportunity to share their thoughts before NLC submit the final design and planning application. Writing on its website, McTaggart Construction, who are set to build the new homes state: 'Oliver and Robb Architects and McTaggart Construction are working on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council to redevelop the site at the former St Brigid's Primary School on Newton Drive, Newmains. 'We wish to seek feedback from the local community before submitting a Planning Application in early summer 2025. 'We wish to consult with the local community on proposals for a development comprising around 33 affordable homes for social rent. The properties will be low rise and in the form of cottage flats, semi-detached and terraced homes with a mix of one, two, three and four bed dwellings. 'The houses will add to NLC's existing rental housing stock and form part of the ambitious Plan for North Lanarkshire, which includes providing 6000 new affordable homes for rent by 2035. 'This will be a drop in session with visitors able to attend at any time between the stated times on the day. In addition to the public consultation an online exhibition is available for viewing. 'The proposals for this development have not been finalised – the site layouts and elevations included in the Proposals section have been prepared to demonstrate how the site could be developed. 'The consultation material has been developed to provide information on the potential development at Newton Drive.' The public consultation takes place this Thursday, May 15, at the Newmains and St Brigid's Community Hub from 4pm to 7pm. The consultation itself will close on May 22. More details are available on the North Lanarkshire Council website. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here.
