Police arrest 3 suspects after Eastpointe man is shot in the stomach

Police arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting of an Eastpointe man late Tuesday afternoon. The shooting happened at around 4:22 p.m. Tuesday in the 24000 block of Kelly Road. When police arrived on the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach. Officers began performing lifesaving measures before the man was taken to an area hospital for his injuries. While at the scene of the shooting, police say a witness called 911 to report that three suspects were seen running away from the area. With the help of the St. Clair Shores K-9 Unit, St. Clair Shores Drone Unit, Roseville Police Department and Michigan State Police, Eastpointe police set up a perimeter and located the three suspects. Police say the suspects were taken into custody without further incident. Detectives recovered evidence related to the shooting, according to officials. The investigation is ongoing, but police say there is no threat to the public. Anyone with additional information on the shooting is asked to call the Eastpointe Police Department Detective Bureau at 586-445-5100 ext. 1025.

Good Samaritan helps rescue driver from car in Lake St. Clair

A good Samaritan is being recognized for jumping to help a driver after the vehicle went into Lake St. Clair on Saturday. According to the St. Clair Shores Fire Department, a bystander named Richard Moore helped pull the driver out of the water. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The fire department says first responders arrived at the scene within minutes and found a vehicle submerged. They checked for additional occupants because there were children's items floating in the water. No additional occupants were found. A firefighter sustained minor injuries during the search from broken glass. "Always use extreme caution around submerged vehicles and/or crash scenes — even shallow water can present serious dangers. We are thankful as always for the teamwork between our residents and department," the fire department said.

Road worker dies after struck by excavator in Livingston County, Michigan

A road worker has died after he was struck by an excavator Monday afternoon in Livingston County, Michigan. According to Michigan State Police, troopers were called at about 3:15 p.m. on June 30 to the area of Grand River near Interstate 96 in Brighton Township. A preliminary investigation revealed that the worker, a 23-year-old from St. Clair Shores, was working in a hole in the road when he was struck by the excavator bucket. MSP says it does not appear the worker who was operating the excavator was aware that the other worker was in the hole. First responders administered aid to the worker, and he was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. MSP says the incident appears to be a work accident, but an investigation is ongoing.
