SNC turning to community to increase interest after recent budget cuts
DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Another academic year is quickly approaching, and St. Norbert College welcomed community members to have a taste of St. Norbert at their dining hall to see what the students will be eating. 'It really shows that when students come to this campus as a full time student, it is more then just the experience of being in class, when they are moving away from home and living on campus, we want to be able to take care of them in so many other ways, and straight to a teenagers stomach is the food that is on campus,' St. Norbert College Director of Admissions Eric Wagner says. Former Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy taking new role with University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Athletics In recent years, the college has seen enrollment decrease, leading to some programs being cut, and students being left with minimal choices of majors and minors to pursue degrees in. 'I think that its a two-fold affect, I mean all colleges are feeling this, especially in the enrollment cliff, the last few years, and also to be able to show that this is a gorgeous campus that is right down the street in the community that is another food option,' says Wagner, 'And also to persuade students to stick around time to see what is available here on this brand new shiny campus.' According to college officials, multiple new buildings and features around the campus will help attract new students to their programs and encourage high school counselors to share the benefits they see with their students. Green Bay Gamblers to host their first-ever corgi race, registration yet to open 'It's been, I think, 5 years since I toured, so that will give me an opportunity to see what majors and what buildings they have on campus,' says Kaukana High School Counsellor Michelle Fucht. 'The food is phenomenal, so it's nice to eat lunch here at the commons.' One of those recent investments is the new Business building, an upgrade that hopes to bring in students of future graduating classes, to become Green Knights. 'There are a lot of different options for kids, and I don't think any of them are a bad option. You got apprenticeships, you've got work experience, technical schools, and you've got 4-year universities, you gotta do what's best for you as a student,' says Fucht. Officials say that the official unveiling of the new business building will take place in October, serving as a venue for student classes, as well as a space for studying and networking.
