File on GSOC investigation into fatal hit and run with DPP

A decision will then be made about what charges are to be preferred. No timeline has been given yet. The 44 year old was walking home and crossing the road near his home at the Highlands, Drogheda on St Patrick's night, 2024 when he was knocked down. He died shortly afterwards at the scene. His death caused great anger and heartbreak in the locality. The car involved was later identified and an off duty Garda is believed to have been driving the vehicle. One young member was subsequently suspended and returned to his native county. A full scale GSOC investigation was launched and several people including other Gardai were questioned. One member was formally arrested and interviewed. GSOC confirmed that its investigation is complete and the file is with the DPP. It is now waiting on a decision on what charges are to be brought against those involved. Niall MacEneaney played hurling for the Wolfe Tones and Mattock Rangers during his career. During his time as manager he won the Louth senior hurling championship with Termonfeckin in 2022 and 2023. He is survived by his wife Grace and his parents. The family have not made any public comment on the case.

Picture: Michaela Harlow Kirwan Bears head coach Todd Wilson said their season opener was about more than just the all-important two competition points. 'We haven't played a game yet, so (the players) have a lot to prove,' Wilson said. 'We've certainly got some high hopes for a number of players, but we'll just see what happens when we play St Pat's. We're expecting them to be a real quality opposition. 'We're expecting a tough game. That Capricornia side at the state champs had a lot of St Pat's kids and they pushed the best of those southern sides – they've done well through the Mal Meninga and Cyril Connell so we're certainly expecting a tough game.' The Bears have every reason to be cautious about Thursday's blockbuster season-opener. A number of St Patrick's stars – including dynamic five-eighth Adam McSherry, Mark Morrow and Ryan John – return for another season of Aaron Payne Cup after being among the competition's standout performers last year. St Patrick's playmaker Adam McSherry will lead the school's charge toward the Aaron Payne Cup in 2025. Mau said his players would need to be switched on from the get-go to stop the Bears running rampant. 'They're always very tough. They're usually a very big side and very mobile,' Mau said. 'So we'll be concentrating on defence – that's probably going to be our main focus for this, and probably for our first couple of games: really big defensive efforts. 'We've probably got the strike power with our attack, but defence is going to win this one.' The Cowboys Challenge fixture kicks off the day's action at 10.30am, followed by the schoolgirls at 11.30am and Aaron Payne Cup at 12.30pm. Sciath na Scol: Clinical St Patrick's edge out battling Ballygarvan

Allianz Sciath na Scol H3 final: St Patrick's BNS 1-11 Ballygarvan NS 2-5 It was a fierce battle in the opening game of Allianz Sciath na Scol between St Patrick's BNS and Ballygarvan in the H3 final with St Patrick's coming out on top. It was nip and tuck throughout the first half with Ballygarvan leading by two at the break but St Patrick's grew throughout the second half and hit six points in a row to take the lead which they would not relinquish. In a tight first half, St Patrick's got the first score off the hurley of Jamie Murray. Ballygarvan evened things up when Patrick Browne hit a 65. Browne was key for St Patrick's and sent a ball across the square with Ryan O'Sullivan battling to keep it in play and scored a superb goal from a difficult angle. St Patrick's responded with a goal when Donagh Cleary's shot dropped in over the head of Ballygarvan keeper Tom O'Connor to level things 1-1 apiece. James Shannon got Ballygarvan's second goal picking up the ball from the puck out and going on a solo run before hitting the ball to the back of the net. St Patrick's responded with a point from a 65 by Murray to leave the score 2-2 to 1-3 to Ballygarvan at half time. Ballygarvan got off to a quick start in the second half with frees from Charley Broderick and Sam Spillane to leave four between the sides. St Patrick's found a purple patch hitting six on the bounce with Murray hitting four (three frees), Leo Hurley and Alex Kelly all raising white flags. Ballygarvan got their third and final score of the half when Broderick hit a free to leave one between the sides. Hurley responded for St Patrick's with another point before the impressive Murray hit his eighth point of the game leaving the final score 1-11 to 2-5. Shamrock Rovers rout injury-hit Saints in Tallaght

Shamrock Rovers 4 St Patrick's Athletic 0 Paul Buttner reports from Tallaght Stadium ANOTHER CLEVERLY-TAKEN goal from the precocious Michael Noonan sent Shamrock Rovers on their way to an unexpectedly facile fourth successive win as they punished injury-hit St Patrick's Athletic's defensive frailty at Tallaght Stadium. Man-of-the-match Graham Burke rowed in with a brace before Aaron Greene added a fourth to inflict St Patrick's heaviest defeat since Stephen Kenny took charge just over a year ago. Their impressive current momentum moves Stephen Bradley's Rovers five points clear at the summit of the Premier Division, albeit with a game more played, ahead of Friday's trip for a top-of-the-table meeting with Derry City. A third defeat in four games sees St Patrick's, who topped the table at the end of March, drop to sixth place, seven points behind Rovers. Having named Shamrock Rovers' wingback Josh Honohan in his squad for the June friendlies, Republic of Ireland men's team manager Heimir Hallgrímsson was an interested spectator as Rovers should have punished an error to take the lead before a minute was played. Rovers' Jack Byrne and Zack Elbouzedi of St. Pats. Ryan Byrne / INPHO Ryan Byrne / INPHO / INPHO Defender Sean Hoare, a former Hoop, inexplicably took a long throw across his own penalty area which fell straight at the feet of Burke. Joseph Anang saved his defender's embarrassment when parrying Burke's volley out for the first corner of the game. Advertisement Hoare was soon close to redeeming his mistake when St Patrick's raided with intent for the first time. Joe Redmond nodded Barry Baggley's deep corner back across goal for Hoare whose header was off target. Mason Melia then showed his promise as the 17-year-old spun Rovers' captain Roberto Lopes to set up Simon Power whose shot was deflected out for another corner. In what was still an open game, Burke, played in by Cory O'Sullivan, worked Anang again before a gross misjudgement by the Saints' goalkeeper all but gifted Rovers the lead on 22 minutes. Burke's ball down the right looked to pose little threat, but Anang raced out from his goal in the hope of reaching it first only to be beaten to it by the alert Noonan. And before Anang could retreat back to his goal, the 16-year-old, in an almost identical situation to his goal in Waterford on Friday night, showed terrific composure to shoot into the unguarded net. The goalkeeping had to be more assured at the other end on 33 minutes to prevent a St Patrick's equaliser. Aidan Keena dinked a clever pass through for the run of Melia to bring a good save from the well-positioned Ed McGinty. Two minutes later Rovers doubled their lead, again punishing poor defending. Burke was allowed to carry the ball from the halfway line, cut all too easily past a sluggish Jamie Lennon, before drilling a shot low and hard past Anang into the bottom corner of the net. Further punishment should have been inflicted on the disjointed St Patrick's defence when Honohan ghosted between two defenders only to drive over. St Patrick's were then left incensed in stoppage time at the end of the half when Melia looked to have been tripped by Lopes inside the area. But no penalty was forthcoming. The game was then all but over as a contest five minutes into the second half when Rovers extended their lead. Noonan showed his tenacity to win a tackle with Luke Turner. Grant pounced on the loose ball to burst forward to cross and give Burke a simple tap-in for his sixth goal of the season. Substitute Aaron Greene added the gloss with a fourth goal seconds after coming on in the 69 minutes, calmly curling a low shot past Anang to the bottom corner for a well-taken fifth strike of the campaign. Shamrock Rovers: McGinty; Grace (Clarke, 61), Lopes, C. O'Sullivan; Grant, Nugent (Mandriou, 67), Healy, Honohan; Byrne (McEneff, 67), Burke (Watts, 67); Noonan (Greene, 67). St Patrick's Athletic: Anang; Hoare, Redmond, Turner (McClelland, 55); Elbouzedi, Baggley (Breslin, 69), Lennon, Power (Carty, 80); Kavanagh (McLaughlin, 80); Melia, Keena (Mulraney, 55). Referee: Damien MacGraith (Mayo). Attendance: 6,542.

'Scissor Sister' who chopped off man's head and penis discovers 'talented' prison hobby

Charlotte and Linda Mulhall made headlines around the world in 2005 when they killed their mother's boyfriend, Farah Swaleh Noor, and mutilated his body in a crime that shocked Ireland A notorious murderer, involved in one of the most "grotesque" crimes to have shocked Ireland, has developed a surprise hobby behind bars. Sisters Charlotte and Linda Mulhall are infamously known for the gruesome killing of their mother's boyfriend, Farah Swaleh Noor, two decades ago, dismembering his body parts including his head and penis during St Patrick's weekend in March 2005. ‌ The duo committed the heinous act after the victim, known for his violence against women, reportedly made inappropriate advances towards Linda, prompting Charlotte to repeatedly stab him with a Stanley knife, inflicting 27 wounds. Simultaneously, Linda attacked him with a claw hammer, following which the pair dissected his body in the bathroom. ‌ His limbs and torso were later discovered in the Royal Canal in Dublin, setting off an investigation that culminated in Charlotte receiving a life sentence for murder, while Linda was imprisoned for manslaughter for 15 years, and their mother, Kathleen, was sentenced to five years for obstructing justice by concealing evidence. Charlotte remains incarcerated, whereas her sister and mother have since regained their freedom. However, Charlotte seems to be finding solace and purpose in prison activities. Prison hobby Inside Limerick Prison, Charlotte, now aged 39 and the longest-serving female prisoner in Ireland, is reportedly embracing a gentler hobby. A source told the Irish Sun on Sunday: "Mulhall is big into sewing and knitting and spending hours every day making things including gorgeous little teddy bears. She's very talented. "She is a lot more settled than when she first arrived from Dublin's Dochas Centre, but that could be down to the fact that she knows freedom is coming soon." ‌ The insider also characterised her as a "model prisoner", revealing she has been granted supervised temporary releases for walks and cinema trips. Charlotte is known to create teddy bears through knitting and sewing, which she then gives to fellow inmates to pass on to their children. ‌ Although she may soon regain her freedom, her crime once sent shockwaves across the nation. Garda Daniel Kenna recalled: "I have worked on a lot of murders and murder is murder but in this circumstance, the fact that the body was mutilated in the way it was after the killing and the fact that it was done by women made it particularly gruesome." Judge Paul Carney described it as "the most grotesque killing that has ever occurred" in his career, while former Detective Superintendent Frank Keenaghan noted: "This was a particularly gruesome and shocking crime and certainly everybody has been aware of it. "It was the talk of the country that this person should be murdered, stabbed, dismembered, and then the body part gotten rid of." ‌ Linda Mulhall As Charlotte awaits her release, her sister Linda was freed in 2018. When approached by reporters afterwards, she said: "I just want to get on with living my life. I don't want to be giving any story." Nikita Mulhall, the daughter of Linda, took to social media to commend her mother following her release, labelling her responsible for taking a "dirty rapist" off the streets. She expressed her frustration by commenting: "Boils my blood no one will ever know the true story to what happened. If he was in prison and the three of them were in the ground, how much different would it have been?" The mum and fitness instructor also voiced words of encouragement: "You've done your time, Linda, well done – go live your life, you deserve it." After serving her sentence, Linda reportedly moved to the UK and has since kept a low profile.
