Former Chelsea star Damien Duff, who now manages League of Ireland side, seen serving a touchline ban in a bizarre spot during Dublin derby
Former Chelsea star Damien Duff was seen watching a match from a bizarre location on Friday night after being handed a touchline ban. Duff, 46, was banned for his side Shelbourne's trip to Dublin rivals Bohemian in their League of Ireland clash. He took charge of Shelbourne back in November 2021, guiding them to the title last season for the first time in 18 years. The former Chelsea midfielder was suspended after being shown his fifth yellow card of the season during Shels' victory over St Patrick's Athletic last week. However, that did not stop Duff from watching his side in action as they fell to a 1-0 defeated and finished the game with nine men. Duff was seen in an unusual disguise that made him unrecognisable as he watched from a nearby hillside. Taking to social media, football fans joked that his ploy was an example of 'brilliant entetainment' from the man who also played for Blackburn Rovers, Fulham and Newcastle United during a lengthy playing career. One user wrote: 'Interesting viewpoint for Damien Duff at Dalymount Park.' A second added: 'Possibly my favourite LOI picture of all time. Damien Duff serving his touchline ban during Shelbourne's visit to Dalymount Park to take on Bohemians.' Another quipped: 'Damien Duff in the ghillie suit.' A fourth noted: 'Iconic already.' A further comment read: 'Say what you like about him, but this guy's brilliant entertainment.' Defeat to Bohs leaves Shelbourne sixth in the League of Ireland table after 16 games and seven points adrift of pace-setters Shamrock Rovers. They return to action on Monday May 19, when they welcome Drogheda United to Tolka Park.
