Fresh Suaalii injury blow leaves Lions status in limbo
Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii requires surgery on a fractured jaw that's placed him in doubt for the Wallabies' blockbuster British and Irish Lions duel. The code-hopping NSW Waratahs star copped an accidental knee from a teammate in Saturday's loss to the Queensland Reds and was carted from Allianz Stadium in a medicab. The 21-year-old was concussed but there was optimism he would miss just one week as the Waratahs pushed for a Super Rugby Pacific finals spot. But on Wednesday the Waratahs revealed their star NRL convert required surgery to reinforce a fractured jaw. A review in four weeks will then determine a return-to-play time frame, leaving the supreme talent in massive doubt ahead of the much-hyped three-Test series that begins in Brisbane on July 19. "We will do all we can to facilitate his recovery in consultation with Rugby Australia to have him in the best shape possible for his availability for the Wallabies," Waratahs coach Dan McKellar said. Suaalii made a statement in his Test debut last year before he'd even played a game for the Waratahs and has since flourished playing both at fullback and in the centres. Speaking on Monday, Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt said that he'd prefer not to wrap Suaalii in cotton wool. "I'm keen to see him keep playing," he said. "He's missed a few games already this season. He hasn't had that many games anyway so, for Joseph, it's important that he just keep playing when he's fit and available to play."

Lamine Yamal stars in six-goal Champions League thriller between Barcelona and Inter Milan
Barcelona and Inter Milan shared a compelling 3-3 draw in a high-octane Champions League semi-final first leg clash on Wednesday. The Italian side raced into a two-goal lead with superb strikes from Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries, before the unstoppable Lamine Yamal pulled Barca back into it with a sublime solo effort. Pau Cubarsi made a vital recovery tackle to stop Thuram after he got in behind Barcelona's high line, and Mkhitaryan had a goal ruled out for an extremely tight offside. Yamal looped a second strike onto the crossbar late on but the sides could not be separated. The second leg takes place in Milan next Tuesday, with the winner to face Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal on May 31 in the Munich

Liverpool leave it late to stun PSG in Champions League
Harvey Elliott has scored less than a minute after coming on as a late substitute to fire Liverpool to a 1-0 win at Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. Runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool had survived a barrage of attacks in the French capital on Wednesday night to keep the score at 0-0 going into the final minutes. City humbled by Mbappe, PSG flex in French ECL derby
Kylian Mbappe has scored a hat-trick, Erling Haaland stayed on the bench injured and Real Madrid dumped Manchester City out of the Champions League. They will host the first-leg games on March 4-5. The top eight in the 36-team standings three weeks ago — Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille, Aston Villa — skipped the playoffs round and are seeded in the round of 16 draw. They host second legs on March 11-12. The round of 16 is in a new, tennis-like seeded bracket for the knockout stage in the expanded competition format. Madrid, as the 11th-placed team in the standings and No.11 seed already knew their next opponents would be Atletico or Leverkusen, who respectively placed fifth and sixth.
