The one-hour Aug. 15 special will take place at Music City's newest venue, the 4,500-capacity The Pinnacle and air at 8 p.m. ET. 'Nearly two decades later, it's incredibly gratifying and inspiring to see the impact of this research. Bringing the show to Nashville will infuse new energy and excitement into our mission. There's still so much work to do and every dollar makes a difference—especially to the families who are counting on novel approaches and therapies as they face the challenges that often accompany a cancer diagnosis.' The commercial-free show will be carried on more than 30 participating platforms including the four major networks (NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox), as well as CMT, AXS TV, Pluto TV, Paramount+, Hulu, HBO Max, Prime Video, AMC+, Comedy Central, MTV, Disney+ and others; viewers will also be able to watch the telecast on-demand on a number of digital and streaming platform. The biennial event was first televised in 2008, when it raised more than $100 million following a broadcast that featured Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze — who died of pancreatic cancer a year later — as well as cancer survivors Crow, Melissa Etheridge and actress Christina Applegate, with appearances from Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood and Miley Cyrus, among others. The 2023 show featured performances from Alabama Shakes singer and solo performer Brittany Howard and The Who, as well as appearances by Jessica Biel, Ken Jeong, Tig Notaro, Julianne Moore and Justin Timberlake. Celebrity Bake Off 'signs up iconic British girlband star as she joins A-list line-up'
Celebrity Bake Off is heating up – and an iconic British girlband star is reportedly set to join a slew of A-listers in the tent. The next series, set to air in 2026, will see Sugababes star Mutya Buena, 40, take part in the Channel 4 show to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer, according to The Sun. A TV insider told the publication: 'Mutya will be seeing if she can get a handshake from Paul Hollywood when she goes into the tent. 'She doesn't consider herself much of a baker, but it's for charity and there are bound to be some.' MailOnline has contacted Channel 4 and Mutya's representative for comment. Mutya will be hoping to find her footing in the kitchen after her Celebrity MasterChef appearance last year, where she struggled with a cheesecake challenge. She famously created a buttery biscuit base that was so thick you could have used it to wedge open a door. Despite crashing out of the competition, the singer said she was proud of her progress. She said: 'I wanted to do Celebrity MasterChef because I enjoy cooking in general and I love cooking for my family and friends. 'I wanted to learn some new things in the kitchen, some new tricks that I could bring home.' The upcoming Stand Up To Cancer special is already shaping up to be a star-studded affair. Hollywood actress Ambika Mod, 29, who rose to fame in This Is Going To Hurt and more recently starred in One Day, will also reportedly be stepping into the tent alongside Geordie Shore favourite Vicky Pattison, 37. Also joining the line-up are comedian Babatunde Aleshe, 38, Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague, 26, and former Celebrity Big Brother contestant JoJo Siwa, 22. They'll be joined by RAG 'N' Bone Man, 40, broadcaster Edith Bowman, 51, and 8 Out of 10 Cats regular Jon Richardson, 42 – all ready to be judged by Cherish Finden and Paul Hollywood in the iconic Bake Off tent. The news of Mutya's appearance comes after Prue Leith, 85, announced she was stepping away from all Great British Bake Off specials earlier this year (L-R Paul, Prue, Noel, and Alison pictured last year) The news of Mutya's appearance comes after Prue Leith, 85, announced earlier this year that she would be stepping away from all Great British Bake Off specials. Her place was temporarily filled by food writer Caroline Waldegrave, 72, during the most recent celebrity series. Prue confirmed the news on This Morning, explaining she will continue on the main show alongside Paul, 59, but will no longer appear on spin-offs.

Bowel cancer survivor backs research into new AI tool
John Keryakoplis, a 69-year-old grandfather from Flintshire, is backing a new Cardiff University study exploring how AI could identify which bowel cancer patients may not need life-altering surgery. Mr Keryakoplis, has two grandchildren, was diagnosed with stage one bowel cancer in January 2020 after taking part in the NHS Wales bowel screening programme. John Keryakoplis with his wife (Image: Supplied) He said: "It didn't feel great to be told I had cancer, but I was very reassured when the doctor said it was in its early stages and very treatable." He underwent a week of radiotherapy in May 2020, followed by surgery in November 2021 to remove the tumour. As part of his treatment, Mr Keryakoplis had a stoma fitted, which he named "George" after his father. He said: "George the stoma even came with me to Menorca. "I wore swimming shorts pulled up so high I looked like Simon Cowell." Despite his diagnosis and treatment, he continued to swim throughout, and has now been cancer-free for five years. He has also raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK through swimming challenges. Mr Keryakoplis said: "I try to live as healthily as I can after my diagnosis. "This new research sounds really promising. "It would be brilliant for bowel cancer patients to have a more accurate and personalised treatment plan, which could prevent people from having surgery if they don't need it." Cardiff University's Professor Spezi has received a grant to develop an AI tool to improve the diagnosis and treatment of rectal cancer (Image: Matthew Horwood) The research he is supporting is led by Professor Emiliano Spezi at Cardiff University. Professor Spezi has received a £500,000 Stand Up To Cancer grant to develop an AI tool to improve the diagnosis and treatment of rectal cancer, a type of bowel cancer. Current treatment decisions are often based on invasive biopsies, but Professor Spezi's AI algorithm analyses 3D medical images to extract detailed data that could help doctors decide on the most effective treatment. He said: "This research could lead to significantly improved and personalised treatment plans for patients in the future. "We want to extract quantitative information from images that can't be seen with the naked eye. "It could be transformative in the way rectal tumours are assessed and treatment is allocated. "We should be able to identify a subgroup of patients for whom surgery is essential – and those for whom it may not be necessary – ultimately improving quality of life." The technology can assess tumour volume and shape, distinguish between healthy and cancerous tissue, and identify complex patterns using deep learning. Professor Spezi is collaborating with Professors Campbell Roxburgh and Joanne Edwards at the University of Glasgow. The research is supported by Stand Up To Cancer, a joint fundraising campaign by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4, which aims to accelerate breakthroughs in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Around 20,200 people in Wales are diagnosed with cancer each year. Visit to support the Stand Up To Cancer charity.
