Director Fansu Njie brings his love of action and horror films and unique perspective as a celebrated Swedish director to this American story of revenge. The film marks the second time he and star Daniel Stisen ( Those About To Die ) have collaborated, following their global success with the Netflix hit, Last Man Down . Stand Your Ground stars Stisen, the former world-renowned bodybuilder champion turned actor, alongside Fargo 's Peter Stormare. When Jack kills one of the assailants in rage, just outside their home, he is imprisoned for six years. Upon release, he discovers the culprits were sons of Bastion. Seeking vengeance, Jack targets Bastion's eldest son, Leon (Michael Billington), who masterminded the attack. Using the Stand Your Ground law, Jack lures Leon into a trap, leaving him comatose. Bastion retaliates, sending assassins, but Jack, fortified in his home, fights them off. Oklahoma law sees changes for using weapons to protect property

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — An Oklahoma law now makes it legally clear you can point or intimidate an individual with a weapon if you are defending your home, private property, or business. Governor Kevin Stitt signed House Bill 2818 on Thursday, which went into effect immediately. Oklahoma already has 'stand your ground' laws when it comes to protecting your life, but language in the bill now expands to your property as well. HB2818-ENRDownload 'What this bill does is provide some clarity for where the Castle Doctrine is applied, and in this statute, thankfully signed by the governor two days ago, expands that boundary of our castle doctrine up to the edge of your property,' said Rep. Jay Steagall (R-Yukon), who authored the bill in an interview over the phone with News 4 Friday. Lawmakers agree on Oklahoma budget, could see income tax cut Steagall said it's an effort that's been in the works for years, and was tentatively dubbed the 'Private Property Protection Act.' During debate on the Oklahoma House floor in March, Steagall used Oklahoma's constitutional right to bear arms in reference to the law's justification. He said the bill was drafted with help from the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association, but at the time said he hadn't spoken with any law enforcement agencies or District Attorney's offices about potential implications of the bill. 'I think what the statute does is provide clarity for the court systems to help them determine what the actual boundary line is when it comes to our Castle Doctrine,' said Steagall. Steagall faced hard questioning from Democrats in March, who questioned responsibilities for gun owners, how Oklahoma minors could interpret the law, and instances across the country where innocent people have been shot for knocking on doors or stepping into yards. News 4 spoke with Rep. Michelle McCane (D-Tulsa) Friday, who voted against the bill. 'I don't think that a threat to your person and a threat to your property are the same type of thing,' said McCane. McCane said Steagall never provided testimonial from Oklahomans who would benefit from the law, and that she was also troubled by Steagall saying he hadn't met with agencies who would potentially have to deal with the aftermath. 'It was just a punishment bill,' said McCane. 'I'd like to try to avoid just adding on punishments without having the conversations about all of the people and ways that it might have a negative impact.' Steagall argued Oklahomans will still be in trouble for pointing a weapon as a joke or even out of anger, like in cases of road rage. He sees the opposition as blatantly targeting constitutional rights. 'Those that do not support our self-defense rights are going to push back against the bill like this in many ways, but our charge as elected officials is simple and that's to support and obey and defend the constitution, which is actually what this bill does,' said Steagall. McCane said she doesn't see the issue as one side versus the other, arguing Democrats in Oklahoma have weapons as well. 'I think that this idea that people that are Democrats or are more on the left don't like guns is bizarre,' said McCane. Steagall says even with the law given the go-ahead, he's always going to encourage Oklahomans who think they or their property is in danger to call police first. He argues there are rare instances though where that just can't happen fast enough. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Judge rejects ‘stand your ground' claim of former federal prosecutor

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Pinellas County Judge has rejected the 'Stand your ground' motion from a former Federal Prosecutor in a stabbing case from an incident in 2023. Patrick Scruggs once worked as a Assistant U.S. Attorney. On September 26-th, 2023, he was driving on the Howard Frankland Bridge and saw a car stopped in the middle of the bridge in a traffic lane. Former Bucs player among 255 arrested in 'Fool Around and Find Out' undercover investigation Another driver saw the same stopped vehicle and got out of his car to investigate. That driver, Ahmad Gahaf said he went to the stopped car and saw a man passed out in the vehicle. Gahaf said he tried knocking on the window, but the driver did not wake up. Patrick Scruggs came up to the scene, and the driver who was passed out, came to and attempted to leave, hitting Scrugg's car. The former prosecutor got out of his car and used the end of a knife to knock out the driver's window. When he did, the startled driver attempted to leave again, but his car was wedged between Scrugg's car and Gahaf's car. Scruggs then used the knife to repeatedly stab the driver. During a hearing, Scrugg's attorney's argued this is a 'stand your ground' case, under Florida law. Scrugg's attorney's claimed 'he was justified in his use of force and had no duty to retreat'. Several witnesses testified Scrugg's appeared enraged as he stabbed the driver and could have just walked away. Friday, Judge Keith Meyer issued a ruling, rejecting the stand your ground claim. In his order, Meyer wrote: The Court finds that the State has established through clear and convincing evidence that, based on the circumstances as they appeared to the Defendant, a reasonable and prudent person would not have used the same force as the Defendant used. Although the Defendant testified, from his prospective, that his actions were necessary to prevent the obviously intoxicated victim from harming himself, the Defendant, and others by careening down the bridge, the balance of the evidence demonstrated that the Defendant was not acting reasonably. Meyer set a trial date in September. Scruggs is facing felony counts of aggravated battery and aggravated assault. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Mother of Douglas County Investigator Aubree Horton challenges official narrative

The Brief Atlanta Investigator Aubrey Horton's mother met with Douglas County investigators about new developments in the case. Lesa Collins says two autopsy reports show Horton did not have drugs or alcohol in his system. Collins says her son did not break into the house on Orkney Way as was initially described. She says video shows the homeowner opened the door and let him in. Collins says Douglas County said her son was shot in the chest, but she claims the autopsy shows he was shot in the back. CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. - A Carroll County homeowner says her son found Horton's cellphone on their 40-acre property. What we know Horton was Atlanta Police's 2024 Investigator of the Year. He had been to the Atlanta Falcons game just hours before he was shot by a Douglas County homeowner. The homeowner was not charged under Georgia's Stand Your Ground law. What we don't know Was Horton in a Carroll County pasture before his death? Who did he encounter there? How did he get wounds and scars all over his body that his mother claims were on the autopsy report? What's next The Douglas County District Attorney's office met with the investigator's family Thursday. They say they will release a statement when they finish their review. The mother of an award-winning Atlanta investigator, who was shot and killed by a Douglas County homeowner, says she still wants answers. The mother says there have been lots of new developments since her son was killed, and she wants the case further investigated. What they're saying "We have dealt with the shame of the false narrative that he was a burglar with criminal intent," mom Lesa Collins revealed. She has been like a detective over the last 7 months trying to find out what really happened to her son, Aubrey Horton. Horton was Atlanta Police's 2024 Investigator of the Year. But somehow, in October of last year, Douglas County released this surveillance video of Horton having some type of episode before they say he broke into a homeowner's house and was shot to death. Collins says a lot of what Douglas County released was not true. She says surveillance video shows something different. "The untruths, that my son had broken through the door of the residence on Orkney Way and was shot in the chest. The video shows he sits down, it de-escalates. My son is breathing with his back to the front door, the homeowner opens the door. My son enters with his hands to the side; there are no threats," she claims. Collins says her son was shot in the back, not in the chest. She also says the autopsy refutes the drug narrative. "Not one but two autopsies, because the family did one, and of course we had GBI Toxicology as well. There were no traces of drugs or alcohol in his system," she affirmed. Collins believes Douglas County jumped the gun in their investigation. Another new development: Horton's cellphone was found in this Carroll County pasture earlier this month. His mother believes Horton was here just before his death. Collins says deputies have not been able to access it yet, but the family that found it says the Douglas County deputy who came out to retrieve it seemed disinterested. "Yeah. He just kinda... like- They never asked any questions about the phone or where we found it. They did not want to see where we found it," landowner Tracy Carroll said. Collins is asking anyone with information to come forward. "There are a lot of unanswered questions as to why, what put my son in that distress, who were the last people with him? Does anybody out there know anything?" Collins pleaded. Mrs. Collins says she understands the Stand Your Ground laws and believes they should be reformed. She is so determined to solve the case that she says she will give out a $25K reward if the information leads to an arrest. The Source FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor spoke with the mother of Investigator Aubree Horton for this story. Additional information was provided by the district attorney's office and previous FOX 5 Atlanta reports.
