STANTON COUNTY, Neb. (KCAU) — A person was hospitalized after a crash on Highway 24 in Stanton County, Nebraska. The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said they responded to the two vehicle crash around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday. They said the incident happened because an SUV, heading east, was slowing down to turn when it was hit by a second vehicle while attempting to swerve and miss the first vehicle. Officials said the driver of the second vehicle claimed she was distracted before the crash, so she swerved to try and avoid the first SUV. NORFOLK, Neb. (KCAU) — A weekend crash near Norfolk left two teens in critical condition, the Stanton County Sheriff's Office said. According to a release from the Stanton County Sheriff's Office, they received a notification from a cell phone's automatic accident detection system, and the dispatcher was able to hear screaming in the notification. Officials responded to 843rd Road, about 2.5 miles east of Norfolk. When officials arrived at the scene, they found a 15-year-old who had been ejected from a crashed SUV and a 16-year-old who had been driving the vehicle injured inside the car. Officials said that their investigation uncovered that the SUV had been headed east when it left the roadway and went airborne, crashing into a power pole and rolling into a grove. The driver was wearing a seatbelt while the passenger was not. The passenger who had been ejected was flown to Omaha to be treated for her injuries, and the driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said, 'Seatbelts save lives and several recent accidents in Stanton County confirm that, always use restraints for your own safety and remember it is the law.' Man arrested on 7 charges after 120 mph pursuit in NE Nebraska

STANTON, Neb. (KCAU) — A Nebraska man was arrested Friday after allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit in northeast Nebraska while intoxicated. According to the Stanton County Sheriff's Office, a pursuit began at about 2:15 a.m. on Friday, April 11. The Wayne Police Department initiated the chase after a black Ford Mustang fled west on Nebraska Highway 35 (N-35). This pursuit ended near Winside. Later, the vehicle was seen again on N-35 by the Stanton County Sheriff's Office. The Mustang allegedly did not stop, instead turning back east and fleeing from police at over 120 mph. At one point, the driver 'recklessly disregarded' a stop sign and made a turn towards Wayne while driving at over 100 mph, a release says. Officials still investigating massive business fire in rural South Sioux City The vehicle was eventually spiked with a tire deflation device by Wayne police and stopped at the west edge of Wayne on N-35. The driver allegedly gave police a fake Wisconsin driver's license before giving his true identity: Treyton Smith, 20, of Springfield, Nebraska. He was also found to have been illegally drinking, according to the release. Smith was booked into the Stanton County Jail later that day. He was charged with speeding 120+ in a 65 mph zone; operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest; willful reckless driving; driving while intoxicated; refusal to submit to chemical DWI test; false imprisonment; and possession of fake ID.
