Great British Bake Off bosses left concerned about Roman Kemp after telling phone call
Roman Kemp has shared some behind-the-scenes secrets from his stint on The Great British Bake Off, revealing that the show's producers were worried about him before he even set foot in the tent. Speaking to his father Martin Kemp on their podcast 'FFS! My dad Is Martin Kemp', Roman reminisced about winning Star Baker during the celebrity edition of the Channel 4 baking competition. Reflecting on his victory, he said to his dad: "There's a lot of trophies that I've nearly won in my life, but that one. It was a stark contrast to your time on Bake Off." He confessed that despite not practicing or preparing much for the show, he still managed to impress. The 32-year-old explained: "They were worried about me because I didn't practice and everyone had said to me 'You practiced that'. I swear on my life, I'm so lazy, I cannot think of anything worse." Roman also shared a funny story about a conversation he had with the Bake Off producers. Recounting their chat, he said: "I had a call with the producers and they were like 'So what are you going to make?' I forgot we had this call so I didn't know what I was going to make so I made it up." Despite his laid-back approach, Roman surprised everyone with his natural baking talent - just one of just many things he is gifted at, Edinburgh Live reports. Beyond his success in radio and TV, Roman has openly talked about the struggle of escaping the 'nepo baby' tag due to his famous parents. In a candid Guardian interview, he expressed his attitude towards doubts cast on his career: "I could not give a f***, just take complete ownership of it." He reflected on the preconceptions he faced: "Every school I ever went into, every room I ever went into, people already had a preconceived idea of who I was and what I was like. So I never had anything to lose." Addressing stereotypes he encountered, Roman said: "Every school I went to was the same: 'He's a famous kid, famous dad, must have loads of money. "Bet he gets anything he asks for.' So I always used to take pride in being, 'OK, here's all my faults. Have 'em. Enjoy'." Despite his forthright approach, Roman has also spoken to his father Martin about the challenges of living up to his fame on their podcast, revealing he feels burdened by his parent's celebrity. In a more introspective moment, Roman considered the struggle to remain driven yet self-aware. He questioned: "Can you maintain drive and ambition alongside being true to yourself and understanding who you are?". He admitted: "I struggle with that massively because I I just run myself into a moment where I'm like, 'I don't care anymore. I don't care. Like, sack it all off'." Roman has been open about his mental health journey, known for advocating early intervention and speaking frankly about his experiences with anxiety and antidepressants. His willingness to open up about his own personal struggles has garnered fans' admiration as he contributes to the stigmatization of such topics.

Celebrity Bake Off star creates 'repulsive' Alien-inspired pie
The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer opened its tent doors to Self Esteem, Tommy Tiernan, Meera Syal and Adam Buxton this weekend. Airing on Sunday, 6 April, the latest instalment of Channel 4's charitable series tasked the foursome with baking a batch of crumpets, a Lambeth cake, and a portrait (or 'pie-trait') of their favourite famous person. For his Showstopper ode to filmmaker Ridley Scott, Buxton recreated a classic scene from the 1979 horror Alien, which features a xenomorph hatching out of the chest of John Hurt's character Kane. The comedian, who hosts The Adam Buxton Podcast and guests on panel shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You, and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, cobbled together a cherry pie monstrosity, topped with an alien in banana form that would appear to be bursting out of its centre. "I'm just worried that the banana might bake before the pastry is baked," judge Caroline Waldegrave told him in the early stages of the Showstopper round. "That's the big worry, I did test it," replied Buxton, before confirming his "third attempt" at home was OK. What he ended up with was a pie straight out of Bake Off viewers' nightmares. "Adam's alien creation is probably the most repulsive and disgusting creation I've seen on #GBBO for some time," tweeted one of them. "Paul & Caroline tasting alien pie. They sure do earn their wages on that show!" read another reaction on social media. Meanwhile, writer/comedian/actress Syal took home the coveted Star Baker apron this week. "I can't put it into words, this apron is never gonna leave me. I'm so thrilled," she smiled in the aftermath. Paul Hollywood went on to tell the cameras: "I think Meera did unbelievably well with her flavours, certainly on the Signature and Showstopper, they were absolutely delicious!" The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer airs Sundays on Channel 4.
