Massive Starlink outage hits tens of thousands across US

, was restored for most users in the United States late Monday(August 18) after a brief but widespread outage that left tens of thousands reporting
connectivity issues
.
According to data from Downdetector, outage reports surged past 43,000 by mid-afternoon before declining to about 2,800 at 2:13 pm ET. The crowdsourced platform tracks service problems by collecting user submissions from multiple sources.
Whether the outage was caused by the same software vulnerabilities identified last month is still unknown.

Monday's outage follows a rare but more severe
global network disruption
in late July, when Starlink was offline for roughly 2.5 hours across multiple continents. At the time, Starlin CEO Elon Musk apologized publicly on X, calling the disruption 'unacceptable' and pledging to address the root cause.
