LeBron James almost lost son Bronny James to a heart attack on court in a nightmarish incident before his NBA rise
Image credit: Getty Images LeBron James was the proudest — and the only — dad in the NBA when he was joined by his son, Bronny James, on the court for a game. The moment of pride stemmed not only from the 20-year-old joining him as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers but also from Bronny's incredible return to the sport, nearly a year after suffering cardiac arrest on the court and undergoing heart surgery. Bronny's comeback was more than just a topic of nepotism debate — it was a story of resilience after a life-threatening ordeal. When LeBron James recalled Bronny's heart surgery ahead of his NBA debut Bronny was diagnosed with an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect after he collapsed on the court while playing for the USC Trojans in July 2023. His life was saved thanks to the quick action of his school's medical staff, one of whom administered timely CPR. He later underwent heart surgery to correct the issue. However, as LeBron James revealed, all Bronny could think about was when he could return to playing basketball. Feeling emotional while talking about the incident on the Netflix docuseries Starting 5, LeBron said, "You're like, wow, it could have been, you know, so much more worse for our family." His emotions reflected both his love for watching Bronny play the game and his pride in how far his son had come after such a massive health scare at a young age. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Cardiologist Begs: Quit Eating Blueberries Before This Happens GundryMD Learn more Undo Looking back at the moment the medical staff administered CPR as emergency first aid, LeBron credited them, saying they were "the reason Bronny is alive now and smiling, thriving, and doing what any 19-year-old should be doing and that's living out their dream." When Savannah James turned emotional on his NBA debut Bronny's mother, Savannah James, also turned emotional while speaking about his NBA debut after the heart surgery. Holding back tears, she said on the Everybody's Crazy podcast: "It was just an emotional moment. I watched my boy do something that is — I'm just so proud. I'm so proud. I would say that's the craziest thing, 'cause I didn't see it coming. It just hit me." After playing for the USC Trojans in college, Bronny made history by playing alongside his father LeBron James for the Los Angeles Lakers in a preseason game last year. He was selected as the 55th overall pick in the NBA Draft. Standing at 6'1', Bronny can play both point guard and shooting guard positions. Who is Anthony Edwards' family? Meet the people who raised and inspired the Timberwolves star
Anthony Edwards's impressive career in the NBA is only part of his story. Behind the slam dunks and explosive playoff performances is a 23-year-old who has experienced profound loss, unwavering sibling support, and a deep sense of responsibility to those who raised him. Born in Atlanta and drafted No. 1 overall in 2020, Edwards credits his journey not just to talent, but to the family ties that shaped him—and to the grief that drives him. Where Edwards' story really began Edwards was born to Chrisha Yvette Edwards and an absentee father on August 5, 2001, per Britannica. His childhood mostly revolved around two women: his mother and maternal grandmother, Shirley Edwards. They were his loudest cheerleaders and his daily foundation. But in 2015, both women passed away from cancer within eight months of each other—an event that changed everything for 14-year-old Anthony. He described the impact to ESPN: 'There are only two people who are going to get my all, but that's over with.' From then on, he played for their memory. As per The Basketball Network, Edwards wears No. 5 to honor the days they passed, a tribute visible every time he steps on the court. Siblings who became parents With them no more, Edwards's older siblings—Antoine, Antoinette, and Bubba—took over as guardians. Antoine and Antoinette raised him through his high school years, keeping his life grounded. As per The Athletic, Anthony has said his sister 'kept everything together,' calling her the 'staple' of the family. Bubba, an aspiring rapper known as 'bdifferent,' inspired Anthony to pick up a basketball. 'If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be up here,' Anthony told the publication. Their relationship remains strong. Bubba has even performed during Timberwolves games, with Anthony backing his music career publicly. Anthony Edwards: Father of three Off the court, Anthony is a father of three confirmed children with three women, including his daughter Aislynn, born in March 2024 with longtime girlfriend Shannon Jackson. The birth, documented on Netflix's Starting 5, showed a new side of the rising star. While Edwards was not sure about fatherhood as a whole after the child's birth, at the time he stated 'As of right now, it's just the best feeling…in the world for sure. That's my little girl,' he said. 'I've got to pick her up and hold her and talk to her.'

Is ‘Starting 5' returning for season 2? Everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on June 24, 2025, 17:30 IST Last updated June 24, 2025, 11:15 IST Man, Starting 5 on Netflix was a wild ride, wasn't it? Dropping in October 2024, it threw us courtside with NBA giants like LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, Domantas Sabonis, and Jayson Tatum. The show wasn't just about dunks and three-pointers—it got real, showing these guys as dads, sons, and regular people with big dreams and bigger pressures. After binging Season 1, fans like me are dying to know: Is Starting 5 Season 2 a thing? Here's the scoop on what's cooking. Has Starting 5 Season 2 Been Greenlit? Good news! Netflix confirmed Starting 5 Season 2 on October 30, 2024, just a few weeks after the first season premiered. That's a fast turnaround, which shows how much faith the streaming giant has in the series. Word is, cameras are already rolling for the next installment, so the production team isn't wasting any time. Fans can rest easy knowing more NBA drama is on the way. Who's in the Lineup for Starting 5 Season 2? The first season featured a killer roster of players, and Season 2 is switching things up with a fresh group of NBA stars. Here's who's confirmed to be in the spotlight: Jaylen Brown – Boston Celtics' championship wing – Boston Celtics' championship wing Kevin Durant – Phoenix Suns' scoring legend – Phoenix Suns' scoring legend Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – Oklahoma City Thunder's MVP hopeful – Oklahoma City Thunder's MVP hopeful Tyrese Haliburton – Indiana Pacers' playmaking wizard – Indiana Pacers' playmaking wizard James Harden – Los Angeles Clippers' bearded icon This mix of veterans and young guns promises some juicy storylines. From Brown chasing another title to Durant hunting for redemption, there's no shortage of narratives to explore. Fun fact: Utah Jazz's Lauri Markkanen was approached for the show but turned it down, saying he wanted to keep his personal life private and avoid any team distractions. What's the Story for Starting 5 Season 2? If it's anything like the first season, Starting 5 Season 2's gonna mix sweaty game nights with real-life feels. Last time, we saw Jimmy Butler deal with his dad's sickness and LeBron open up about Bronny's heart scare. It hit hard. This season'll probably track the 2024-25 NBA grind, zooming in on these guys' highs and lows. With this crew, we might get spicy playoff moments or even trade buzz—imagine Harden in a new jersey! Some X fans are losing it over a possible Finals Game 7 getting big screen time. I'm crossing my fingers for scenes of Haliburton clowning with teammates or Brown celebrating with Boston fans. It's gonna be hoops and heart, no doubt. Starting 5 Season 2 Potential Release Date No exact date yet, but let's do some detective work. Season 1 followed the 2023-24 season and landed on October 9, 2024, right after the Finals. Season 2's tagging along for 2024-25, which wraps in June 2025. So, I'm betting on a late 2025 vibe—maybe September or October. Netflix's got it on their 2025 list, so it's coming, y'all. New Starbucks beverage goes after wellness market
"Remember to order a Starbucks drink after your workout," said no one ever. Starbucks has not always prioritized making its handcrafted beverages healthy. Some menu items have masked the taste of coffee to appeal to a larger audience, loading up on whipped cream and decadent syrups containing an entire day's worth of sugar. Health-conscious customers did, of course, have better-for-you options such as a caffe latte with skim milk, nitro cold brew, or espresso macchiato. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter But now consumer trends are truly evolving, with older and younger generations alike prioritizing low caloric content and clean ingredients like never before. And Starbucks' latest move shows it's taking notice. Image source: Getty Images During the Starbucks Leadership Experience event in Las Vegas, the company revealed that it is testing a new Banana Protein Cold Foam. This potential new menu addition tweaks the original cold foam by adding banana flavor and protein powder, which contains around 15 grams of protein per serving. This is not the first time Starbucks (SBUX) has introduced protein to its menu. In 2018, it launched the Protein Blended Cold Brew in Almond and Cocoa flavors, which blended cold brew, almond milk, plant-based protein, almond butter, banana date fruit blend, and ice to create the beverage. Related: Starbucks faces huge new rival The protein-packed drinks were only available for a limited time and were eventually discontinued months later, never to be seen again. At the Las vegas event, the coffee giant also introduced the Starting 5, a new program in which five stores will be chosen to test potential new menu items before rolling them out across all locations nationwide. This program is part of the "Back to Starbucks" strategy, in which the company aims to revamp its menu by "reimagining and modernizing its beverages and food to build a relevant, hype-worthy global menu that will resonate with customers," as stated in a press release. The coffee chain has also been working overtime to test new food menu items currently under development. These include a new Butter Croissant, Raspberry Croissant, and Double Chocolate Cookie. Starbucks has not announced an official day for when the tested menu items will hit stores nationwide, but it has been making changes quickly, so if successful, these innovations could launch very soon. The chain's "Back to Starbucks" turnaround strategy aims to improve customers' overall experience by redesigning stores, optimizing efficiency, prioritizing coffee quality, simplifying its menu, and empowering its baristas. The coffee giant recently began simplifying its menu by reducing customization options and eliminating extra charges for milk alternatives. Related: Starbucks makes huge investment to solve a key problem In February, Starbucks discontinued nine beloved Frappuccinos from the coffee-based and crème categories, as well as other beverages and food items, nearly halving the available options. Although many might have thought the company's shrinking menu meant no more seasonal or permanent launches, this drastic move seems to have made room for more innovation. The Timberwolves social team cooked LeBron James using his own words against him
The Timberwolves social team cooked LeBron James using his own words against him The most LeBron James has ever hinted about when he might retire came during the first episode of Netflix's Starting 5 series when James said he could "possibly sit down for a little longer" if he thought there was another player on the floor better fit for the moment than himself. "I have not seen that yet," James said. The Minnesota Timberwolves social team made him eat those words early Thursday morning after the Wolves bounced James and the Los Angeles Lakers from the first-round of the NBA playoffs. That clip was posted to the team's X account, and the Wolves made sure to include the part that followed -- a transition to Anthony Edwards expressing his desire to "cook LeBron one-on-one." PASSING THE TORCH: LeBron gave Edwards advice after elimination What a pull. That clip is the definition of foreshadowing.
