Youth must strengthen human values to face global challenges: Minister Bindu
In order to confidently face the challenges confronting humanity in the 21st century, young people must cultivate their skills while strengthening human values, Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu has said. She was speaking after inaugurating the State-level celebrations of International Youth Day, jointly organised by the Health department, the National Service Scheme (NSS), and the State AIDS Control Society here on Tuesday. Organisations like the NSS have taken up the mission of fostering social commitment and human values, the Minister noted. She added that Health department and AIDS Control Society have been actively involving the youth in awareness campaigns to eliminate HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, as well as serious respiratory illnesses. The Minister urged youth to create an atmosphere of love and friendship on campuses and to stand firm in achieving sustainable development goals. District panchayat president V.S. Prince presided over the function, with District Collector Arjun Pandiyan as the chief guest. Thrissur City Police Commissioner R. Ilango flagged-off a rally. K. Sakkeena, project director of the State AIDS Control Society, delivered the keynote address. As part of the programme, prizes were distributed to the winners of the State-level Red Run Marathon and Red Ribbon Quiz competition, aimed at spreading HIV awareness among students.

Himachal CM flags off 12 e-scooters to reach out to HIV, TB, hepatitis patients
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday flagged off 12 e-scooters from his residence. These e-scooters have been provided to the Health department through the State AIDS Control Society and would be deployed across eight districts of the state, a release said. It said the initiative aims to deliver doorstep medical services including delivery of medicines, screening and counselling services to patients suffering from Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Sexually Transmitted Infection (SITs), Tuberculosis (TB) and Hepatitis. This is the first time such a dedicated and humanitarian outreach model was being implemented in the state to ensure that no individual was deprived of essential treatment. This initiative would ensure the continuity of medication and significantly contribute to achieving viral load suppression among patients, thereby enabling them to live healthier and longer lives, the release said. Commending the State AIDS Control Society and the Health department for this initiative, the Chief Minister said Red Ribbon Clubs, youth, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations have played a vital role in raising sustained awareness about HIV. "Making Himachal Pradesh HIV-free was our collective responsibility. I am confident that these e-scooters would strengthen our ongoing efforts." He said that over 6,000 individuals were currently living with HIV in the State and most of whom have achieved viral load suppression, a testament to the success of the state government's policies and consistent efforts. He said that the State Government was promoting electric vehicles in the state for conservation of environment and providing e-scooters to the Health department was also a step in this direction. Health and Family Welfare Minister (Col.) DhRam Shandil said that the State AIDS Control Society was actively working through 471 Red Ribbon Clubs established in universities, colleges and industrial training institutes across the state. Additionally, the Adolescent Education Programme was being implemented in schools. The Department of Youth Services and Sports and the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan were also partnering to raise awareness about HIV among out-of-school youth.

Free treatment given to over 1.24L HIV patients in State
Hyderabad: There are over 1.24 lakh HIV patients in the State and they were provided free treatment through ART Centres. The State AIDS Control Society (TSACS), which tested over 19.02 lakh people in 2024-25, has found 9,415 tested positive for HIV. The Health Minister had a review meeting on the TSACS on Monday. The Minister reviewed the progress of HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, treatment and other programmes in the State. The officials explained the details of the programmes being undertaken by TSACS to the Minister. The Minister inquired about the performance of ART (Anti-Retroviral Therapy) centres across the State, supply of drugs, testing and counselling services. Officials explained that there were more than 5,000 patients in 13 districts of the State. The Minister suggested that the number of tests should be increased in 26 districts, with people in the high-risk group to be identified and awareness programmes organised. He suggested that the performance of NGOs working in association with TSACS should be reviewed from time to time. The Minister said that the State government was committed to the goal of completely controlling HIV/AIDS by 2030, and TSACS should work accordingly. The Minister suggested that HIV/AIDS patients should use medicine regularly as prescribed by doctors. The Minister appealed to the people to treat HIV/AIDS patients with compassion and not discriminate against them. Health TSACS Director Haimavati, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner RV Karnan, Medical Education Director Narendra Kumar and other senior officials participated in the meeting.
