Houthi Missile Interrupts Soccer Cup Finals in Tel Aviv.. Israeli President Asked to Evacuate
Taarek Refaat
A Houthi missile temporarily interrupted a State Cup soccer match in Tel Aviv, where Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who was watching the match, was evacuated to a safe location, according to Israeli television stations.
The Israeli military had issued advance warning of the missile launch from Yemen, which targeted areas including Jerusalem, greater Tel Aviv, and the city of Netanya, home to millions of Israelis.
The military said in a statement: "A missile launch from Yemen was detected toward Israeli territory, and air defense systems are working to intercept the threat."
Residents of the greater Tel Aviv area rushed to shelters this evening after sirens sounded following a missile launch from Yemen toward Israel.
Israeli media reported that the missile was intercepted over Jerusalem, creating a state of tension and anxiety in the area.
Sirens also sounded in both Jerusalem and greater Tel Aviv, temporarily closing Ben Gurion International Airport to air traffic for the safety of passengers and aircraft.
