Two injured in six-vehicle accident on North-South Expressway
NIBONG TEBAL: A woman and a child sustained minor injuries in an accident involving six vehicles at Km 160 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) heading north towards Tambun here this afternoon. State Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director John Sagun Francis said a total of nine individuals were involved in the incident, with seven escaping unhurt. He said they received an emergency call at 12.38pm and a team from the Nibong Tebal fire and rescue station was dispatched to the scene. "When the team arrived at the scene at 12.51pm, it was found that the accident involved six cars, though three of them had already left the scene," he said in a statement today. John said the three vehicles still at the scene were a Perodua Axia, a Mazda 3, and a Honda City. "The Perodua Axia carried three victims – a man and a woman in their 30s and a five-year-old girl. "The woman and the child sustained minor injuries. "Meanwhile, all three occupants of the Mazda 3 and the three in the Honda City were unharmed," he said. John said no victims were trapped and those injured were taken to the hospital by paramedics. The operations were completed at 1.12pm.

Viva driver dies in Pagoh collision with lorry
MUAR: A 26-year-old man was killed after his Perodua Viva collided with a three-tonne lorry along Km104.1 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) near Pagoh here today. The 8.50am crash trapped the victiminside his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. State Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Hafiz Mohd Shahid said firefighters used rescue tools to extricate the victim's body from the wreckage. "The deceased was handed over to the police for further action," he said in a statement. The lorry driver, a 41-year-old man, sustained injuries and was treated on-site before being transferred to hospital. The lorry was carrying a load of hardware items when the collision occurred. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Shoplots razed in Semporna

SEMPORNA: A fire destroyed three two-storey shoplots in town, Tuesday. A spokesperson from the State Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call following the incident at 3.03am via MERS999. A team of nine firefighters was dispatched to the scene in a fire engine and EMRS vehicle. 'The fire involved the first floor of a two-storey shoplot, measuring 45X30 feet. 'The firefighters were using three water streams with three sprouts to combat the blaze,' said the spokesperson. No casualties were reported.
