Pahang expects 2.85 million vehicles along highways for Aidiladha
KUANTAN: Pahang is expected to witness a surge in traffic, with an estimated 2.85 million vehicles projected on its highways during Aidiladha celebrations this weekend. This figure is slightly lower than the traffic recorded during the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, which saw some 3.1 million vehicles entering the state. State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Ir. Razali Kassim said that the balik kampung travel projection, between May 29 and June 9, would see 2.56 million vehicles on the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway (KLK) and 803,000 vehicles on the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1). "KLK will carry an average of 176,800 vehicles daily, with peak traffic anticipated on June 8 (Sunday), when around 184,000 vehicles are expected on the stretch. This increase is likely due to people returning to work on June 9, and schools reopening on June 10. "LPT1 is expected to handle 73,100 vehicles daily, with traffic peaking at 97,000 vehicles on June 8, particularly along the stretch between Karak (Bentong) and Jabor," he told reporters at the Gambang Toll Plaza yesterday. Earlier, Razali, accompanied by Pahang Road Transport Department (RTD) director Syed Ahmad Khairulanwar Alyahya Syed Abdul Rahman, distributed goodies to motorists at the toll plaza as part of the Aidiladha Road Safety Advocacy Programme. Razali said that traffic on KLK on Sunday was expected to increase by 61 per cent compared with normal days (non-festive season), which typically sees around 110,000 vehicles, while LPT1 is expected to see a 78 per cent increase, compared with its usual 41,000 vehicles on regular days. He reminded all road users to comply with traffic regulations, observe speed limits, and take adequate breaks during long drives, both on their way to their hometowns and during their return journeys. "Motorists must pay attention to constant reminders to prioritise safety on the road. They should also carry out basic vehicle inspections to ensure their vehicles are in good condition," he said. Razali said 262 RTD enforcement officers across Pahang were involved in a special operation for Aidiladha to help reduce accidents. The operation, which began on June 4, will end on June 10.

Final E-ART route proposal expected by August
ISKANDAR PUTERI: The final alignment proposal for the Elevated Automated Rapid Transit (E-ART) system is expected to be announced this August, the Johor State Legislative Assembly was told today. State Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications Committee chairman, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, said it is subject to the outcome of the Request for Proposal (RFP) evaluation by the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS). 'UKAS has initiated the RFP process for the E-ART system implementation as part of efforts to complete the integrated transportation network in Greater Johor Bahru. 'The E-ART system will cover three main corridors, namely Skudai, Tebrau and Iskandar Puteri, and will be integrated at the main interchange station at Bukit Chagar, ultimately supporting the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS),' he said at the assembly sitting in Kota Iskandar. He was responding to a question from Datuk Ramlee Bohani (BN-Kempas) about the government's measures to tackle the worsening traffic congestion in Johor Bahru, including short—and long-term plans to address the problem. He said the E-ART system will significantly ease traffic congestion, improve daily mobility and support the state's low-carbon agenda. Mohamad Fazli was previously reported to have announced the development of the E-ART system, which involves 32 stations and is estimated to cost nearly RM7 billion. He said the state government has set up the Greater JB Special Traffic Dispersal Committee, which has identified 77 congestion areas and taken action in more than 20 locations. 'This committee has also proposed measures such as the installation of lane barriers, traffic information boards, and enforcement during peak hours, which have been presented at the Cabinet Committee Meeting on Congestion and Safety. '...the dispersal plan includes the closure of Jalan Ledang leading to the Skudai Highway (the exit ramp from Taman Johor to Skudai), which has successfully reduced traffic pressure in the area,' he said. Mohamad Fazli said the government is also studying the need to increase road capacity, including widening roads, building new bypasses, carrying out regular maintenance, and implementing more modern traffic management systems to support future economic growth and traffic density. 'Therefore, the state government has submitted a list of 18 proposed projects to the Highway Network Development Plan (HNDP) consulting services to review projects that should be prioritised for approval,' he added.

Melaka needs RM25mil to resolve street lighting problem
MELAKA: The Melaka government needs approximately RM25mil to address the issue of streetlights in the state. State Public Works, Infrastructure, Public Facilities and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer said the allocation received this year was only RM3.5mil, involving RM3mil from the federal government and RM500,000 from the state government. "The amount is still a long way from solving the street lighting problem on state roads, as it does not include village roads," he told the State Assembly here on Tuesday (April 29). He was responding to a question by Tuminah Kadi@Mohd Hashim (BN-Pantai Kundor) on the allocation for street lighting. Hameed said Melaka also received RM1.7mil under the Malaysian Road Records Information (Marris) for the installation of street lighting in village areas this year, with the Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah, and Jasin districts each receiving RM500,000, and RM200,000 allocated to the State Public Works Department. – Bernama

Pahang gets RM858m for roads, clinics, conservation under 12MP, says state exco
KUANTAN, April 24 — The federal government has allocated more than RM858 million under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for Pahang to implement road infrastructure projects. State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Razali Kassim said the funds were channelled through the Ministry of Works to implement two road upgrading projects involving allocations of RM100 million and RM124.82 million. He added that RM320 million was also channelled through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development for five other projects, including the upgrading of Jalan Pos Sinderut in Lipis. 'All these projects are at the Public Works Department design stage,' he said when winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here yesterday. On healthcare, Razali said RM28.98 million has been allocated for 40 dilapidated clinics in the state, involving 12 demolish-and-rebuild projects and 28 repair and upgrade works, all of which are underway and expected to be completed by November. In response to complaints that the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh only has six Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, he said the claim was unfounded, adding that the hospital provides critical care services with 18 ICU beds for adults and 31 Neonatal ICU beds for infants. Meanwhile, state Welfare, Women and Family Development Committee chairman Datuk Sabariah Saidan said that, as of March, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) has provided monthly financial aid to 30,456 recipients in Pahang. She said the temporary financial assistance initiative involved an expenditure of over RM14 million and aimed to help individuals or families in need to have a better quality of life. State Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff said the state government planned to establish another Seladang Conservation Centre at Jalan Bukit Rengit, Lanchang. 'The Wildlife Department is in the process of applying for funding under the 13MP for the project. If approved, there will be two seladang conservation centres in Pahang, strengthening ex-situ conservation efforts,' he said. He added that the state government would also continue with phase 6 of the Pahang People's Housing programme this year, with a total of 470 housing units to be developed at a value of RM36 million.
