The streaming platform's upcoming Western drama, set in Texas, follows "three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies," which are "threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life," Netflix says about the upcoming series. "As the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past," Netflix adds. "Vise tightening, Staten (Josh Duhamel) fights to protect the land he calls home, and the only love that can pull him back from the demons that haunt him." 'Ransom Canyon' has lust, deceit, heartache, creator says Series creator April Blair told Netflix's Tudum that "Ransom Canyon" at its core "isn't just a town, it's an idea." "It's the painful longing for your first love," she said. "It's the burning desire to protect your family. It's cowboys and lovers, grifters and thieves. Saddle up for a new Western show that has a little bit of everything on Netflix. Ransom Canyon, based on the book by Jodi Thomas, will capture stories of a small town in the wild west. Led by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, the Netflix series arrives mid-April. The show will be headlined by Josh Duhamel (Love, Simon, Shotgun Wedding) and Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights, Euphoria) as characters from the book Staten Kirkland, a stoic rancher, and Quinn O'Grady, a pianist who keeps to herself. Deadline exclusively reported the castings of James Brolin as ex-Army captain and now rancher Cap Fuller, La Brea star Eoin Macken as Davis, owner of Bar W ranch which is the main rival of Staten Kirkland's Double K and A Million Little Things star Lizzy Greene as ambitious head cheerleader at Ransom Canyon High Lauren Brigman, who is also the sheriff's daughter. We also broke the news of additions Marianly Tejada (One of Us Is Lying) as former nurse and now barkeep Ellie Estevez, Jack Schumacher (Top Gun: Maverick) as the charming but enigmatic drifter Yancy Grey, Garrett Wareing as the quietly determined Lucas Russell (Manifest) and Andrew Liner (Vampire Academy) as star quarterback of Ransom Canyon high's football team Reid Collins. These four were just the tip of the iceberg in a whopping 13 people rounding out the ensemble cast of the series. Recurring cast include Brett Cullen (Winning Time), Grey's Anatomy alumna Kate Burton, Jaren Robledo (Rez Ball), Jennifer Ens (Chapelwaite), Kenneth Miller (The Cleaning Lady), Niko Guardado, Justin Johnson Cortez and Casey W. Johnson. Philip Winchester (Strike Back) will guest star. Deadline also exclusively reported the addition of Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon, Horizon) as Jake Longbow, Staten's trusted ranch manager at the Double K as well as Meta Golding's boarding the series as recurring character Paula Jo, Davis' ex-wife. Season 1 of the contemporary western romance show will unfold in 10 episodes. Based on the first book in a series of 10 contemporary Western romance novels by Jodi Thomas, Ransom Canyon's official logline reads: Welcome to Ransom Canyon, where love, loss, and loyalty collide beneath the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country. The teaser clip also shows snippets of what looks like a romance between Greene's Lauren Brigman and Wareing's Lucas Russell. 'It's a multi-generational family show set on a ranch, and we say it's Virgin River meets Yellowstone,' Jinny Howe, Netflix's Head of Drama, Development, told Deadline in August 2022 about Ransom Canyon, a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary western saga that weaves together the lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country, specifically crimson mesas. There also looks to be a brotherhood between Staten and Cap Fuller, according to the teaser clip. RELATED: 'It's a contemporary Western romance show, just looking for more in this comfort romance space,' Howe added in the 2022 interview. 'We think that it's going to deliver on all the romance and again it will be a really beautiful vista and setting, very escapist.' April Blair serves as creator, showrunner and executive producer of the Western drama TV adaptation. Amanda Marsalasis directed the pilot and second episode. David McWhirter, Meera Menon and Michael Offer also direct. Blair, Joe Fazzio, Paul Haapaniemi, Laura Nava, Lucas Rojas and Paul Haapaniemi serve as writers on the series. Dan Angel also executive produces. Yes, there are a few trailers. The first teaser clip arrived in February 2025 ahead of Valentine's Day. The full official trailer landed in late March.
