Alderney's new 'world-class' ambulance to improve care and safety

A new ambulance is set to improve patient care and safety in Alderney, health bosses and Rescue Guernsey said the new emergency vehicle, equipped with the latest "life-saving technology", would replace its previous ambulance delivered in executive Mark Mapp said the technology in the ambulance was "absolutely world-class", adding: "We're proud to be delivering this to the people of Alderney"."Not only does it have the most sophisticated medical equipment to ever arrive on Alderney's shores, it also allows for safer patient transfers through the use of a self-loading electronic stretcher for better manual handling and a powered carrying chair," he said. The ambulance service said the vehicle's technology included an advanced cardiac monitor, with the ability to stream real-time data to clinicians in Guernsey or also said the States of Alderney offered financial support for the Mapp said: "The vehicle is smaller than a Guernsey ambulance, has specially been chosen for the narrower roads on Alderney, and is equipped with four-wheel drive so it will be able to access many places a conventional road ambulance couldn't."None of this would have been possible without the support and commitment of the States of Alderney, whose ongoing engagement in improving pre-hospital emergency services in Alderney has been crucial to the transformation of care provision in recent years."

Alderney residents asked to 'be economical' with water

Alderney's residents have been asked to be careful with their use of water during the current spell of dry States of Alderney Water Board reminded islanders sprinklers are banned and if people were found to have used them they faced fines of up to £5, said there was "a limited water resource" and although levels were currently "resilient" continued dry weather "may be a cause for concern".The board asked residents to "be economical with water usage" and thanked them for their cooperation.

It is against the law to drop litter in public places and anyone caught doing it could be fined, the States said. The States of Alderney has also asked the public not to leave black bin bags out unless they are sealed in a container. This is because loose or open bags can be dangerous and are not allowed under island waste rules, it said. Less than 5% of Alderney housing classed as 'affordable'

Alderney has 68 affordable homes according to new figures published by the island's government - less than 5% of the island's domestic States of Alderney published its 2025 Residential Property Stock and Prices Bulletin this week, in partnership with Guernsey's Data and Analysis were 1,510 "domestic property units" on the island at the end of March, with 47% owner-occupied and 45% privately MacFarlane, chairman of Alderney's Housing Group, said housing was "high" on the States' agenda and the new data would help it understand the island's housing needs.
