Wire survive Salford scare to boost play-off hopes
Betfred Super LeagueSalford (8) 12Tries: Ryan Goals: Hankinson 4Warrington (12) 24Tries: Dufty, Harrison, Josh Thewlis, Ratchford Goals: Sneyd 4 Warrington Wolves moved back to within a point of Super League's top six after coming from behind to survive a huge scare at struggling Salford Red Red Devils have now lost 13 consecutive games in a season in which they have been beset by financial problems that have caused an exodus of their best players, but they defended ferociously and took advantage of a dismal performance by Sam Burgess's side.A try from Ethan Ryan and two penalties from Chris Hankinson, as Wolves suffered from poor discipline, edged the home side ahead in a match for the first time since they secured their only win of the campaign, against Huddersfield on March were unconvincing but tries from James Harrison, Josh Thewlis and Stefan Ratchford saw them secure back-to-back victories for the first time since to follow. Salford: Brierley; Ryan, Hankinson, Marsters, Connell; Nikorima, Richardson; Ormondroyd, Robb, Hill, Warren, Russell, Sangare, Wilson, Glover, Dufty; Josh Thewlis, Tai, Wrench, Jake Thewlis; Williams, Sneyd; Vaughan, Crowther, Yates, Stone, Fitzgibbon, Harrison, Philbin, King, Liam Rush.

The players Warrington Wolves have chosen for return to Super League action
Warrington Wolves return to Super League action with a trip to Leeds Rhinos on Saturday (Image: Allan McKenzie/ WARRINGTON Wolves' 21-man squad for their return to Super League action has been revealed. Head coach Sam Burgess' selection for Saturday's Round 14 trip to Leeds Rhinos shows just one change from the players he chose from for the Challenge Cup Final against Hull KR. Advertisement As the Wire boss reported at his pre-match press conference yesterday, full-back Matt Dufty is his only fresh injury concern - the Australian fractured his eye socket at Wembley and will miss at least the next two games as he awaits surgery. His place in the 21 is taken by forward Tom Whitehead, with Stefan Ratchford set to take Dufty's place at full-back in a starting side that looks set to be similar to the one that was agonisingly beaten in the cup final. Milestones that Stefan Richard achieved on his special night
Stefan Ratchford is mobbed by teammates as he celebrates scoring a try for Warrington Wolves against Castleford Tigers (Image: Paul Currie/ STEFAN Ratchford's milestone game for Warrington Wolves against Castleford Tigers turned out to be a sweet one in a number of ways. The 36-year-old, who is in his 14th season at the club, fittingly scored The Wire's 75th-minute try on his 350th club appearance to kill off Castleford's comeback and send his team to Wembley on the back of a timely win. Advertisement Ratchford is now Warrington's joint 18th highest appearance maker in the club's entire history. He is level with former Wire back-rower, skipper and head coach Paul Cullen but could quickly climb into the top 15, as he is only a few behind Frank Williams (351) and Eric Fraser (352). His first appearance in the club colours came in the opening game of the 2012 season away to Hull FC - a game which ended 20-20. Stefan Ratchford leads out The Wire against Castleford Tigers (Image: Paul Currie/ Meanwhile, Ratchford's career games tally has now moved on to 468. He made 108 appearances for Salford between 2007 and 2011 and has 10 international caps to his name. Advertisement 'I don't really know what to say,' said Ratchford when asked about reaching his 350th match milestone. 'I'm not usually stuck for words but 350 games for one club, especially coming after being at Salford for a few years as well, is probably something I never thought I'd achieve. 'With five minutes left that gap opened up, luckily I was there and Duff (Matt Dufty) popped the ball up nicely so to get a try on the milestone is real nice. 'The milestone is probably something I'll look back on in time and it'll probably hit me a little bit more. It's something pretty special to be honest.'
