American man's routine lawn mowing takes deadly turn

An American man has died in a freak incident while tending to his garden. Texas resident Stephen Daniel was mowing his lawn on April 27 when he disturbed a large beehive. The bees immediately swarmed Mr Daniel, and began stinging him. He tried to escape the attack, rushing into his car but the bees followed him into the vehicle. Chilling Ring doorbell footage captured Mr Daniel's frantic escape, showing him drive through a neighbour's front yard as the bees inside the car continued to sting him. His neighbour, Chrishae Cooper, witnessed the vehicle drive into her yard and called 911 unaware of what was happening to Mr Daniel. Stephen Daniel. 'Then you got closer you could just see like something swarming. 'He was trying to still escape from the bees because he started driving away, and he made it onto the street.' Police confirmed when they arrived they found Mr Daniel 'being swarmed by bees'. 'Officers immediately evacuated the driver from the area and placed him inside a police vehicle a distance from the initial attack to escape further bee stings,' the police stated. Officers requested an ambulance but sadly, once Mr Daniel was on his way to hospital, he became unresponsive and stopped breathing. 'Lifesaving measures were administered and the driver was rushed to Eastland Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to the effects of the bee stings,' police said.

Horror as swarm of bees attack and kill terrified man as he mows lawn

Stephen Daniel had been mowing a lawn close to an abandoned building when he accidentally disturbed a swarm of bees that ended up chasing him down and stinging him A swarm of bees attacked and killed a terrified man while he was mowing his lawn. Stephen Daniel had been mowing the lawn close to an abandoned building near Friendship Park in Eastland, Texas, on April 27, when he accidentally disturbed a large beehive. Within moments the bees swarmed Stephen as he raced toward his vehicle. But as he tried to escape, he ended up in Chrishae Cooper's front garden. She watched on as Stephen struggled to fight off the bees and alerted emergency services. Police were then dispatched to the scene in an attempt to save Daniel's life. ‌ ‌ But despite his efforts to escape, the bees continued to sting and attack Stephen. He was later rushed to hospital with severe injuries. Doctors attempted to save Stephen's life but he later died at the hospital from circulatory collapse due to the stings. A beekeeper was later called to remove the hive from the abandoned property, network KTXS reported. The Mirror has contacted Eastland Police for comment. According to the US-based Mayo Clinic a bee sting can range from causing the victim pain and swelling to resulting in a life-threatening allergic reaction. It added if you have one type of reaction once, it does not mean you will have the same reaction every time you or stung or that your reaction will be more severe. "A severe reaction to a bee sting is potentially life-threatening and requires emergency treatment. This type of reaction is called anaphylaxis," the Mayo Clinic said. "A small percentage of people who are stung by a bee or other insect develop anaphylaxis. It usually happens 15 minutes to an hour after the sting. Symptoms include rash, itching, trouble breathing, swollen tongue, trouble swallowing and tightness in the chest." It added that if you end up getting stung more than a dozen times, you could have a bad reaction that makes you feel quite sick. Symptoms of this include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and light-headedness. ‌ A person should seek immediate care if the reaction suggests a case of anaphylaxis. People, including young children, who have heart problems should also seek immediate care if they are stung multiple times. Tragically, there have been several times where people have been killed after being stung by bees. In February, the Mirror reported a tourist at a popular bird sanctuary died in a freak accident after being attacked by a swarm of killer bees. Sandeep Purohit, 44, was exploring the tourist attraction Karnala Bird Sanctuary, near Mumbai, India, with his wife and son when he was set upon by a swarm of bees. He suffered multiple agonising stings alongside his wife and son, before hitting his head on the floor. Despite the best efforts of doctors, the dad was pronounced dead. Authorities believe he suffered an allergic reaction which resulted in a cardiac arrest.

Plans for new city centre car park and public space approved by council

PLANS for the next phase of a major redevelopment of Carlisle's Citadel Station were approved this week. Cumberland Council is hoping to create a new Southern Gateway on land between Water Street and James Street. The planning application was for what is described as 'hybrid full/outline planning permission' for public realm enhancements and the new gateway. Members of the council's planning committee meet at Allerdale House in Workington on Wednesday (April 9) to consider the application which also includes plans to redevelop the Station Road Business Park including a new surface car park. It was recommended that the application was granted subject to a number of planning conditions and, when the matter was put to the vote it was unanimously approved. However, before they considered the application, three committee members removed themselves from the meeting, because they had received a briefing on the whole station redevelopment and they had been advised to do so, so there was no way they could be accused of 'pre-determining' the application. Councillor John Mallinson (Houghton and Irthington, Conservative) said it had left them in a 'less than ideal position'. They were told that, because it was an application from the council, it could be perceived as such by members of the public. Planning officer Stephen Daniel told members that it would consist of two car parks either side of George Square and it would surround the existing Turkish baths. Councillor Jimmy Grizdale (Seaton, Labour) proposed that they should grant approval for the development and said: 'This is just an improvement for the city centre.' The report states: 'The site comprises previously developed land and was formerly occupied by multiple demolished buildings – including the 1970s Pools Building and Staples. 'At present, the site is characterised by car parking, sealed surfaces, a small parcel of biodiversity to the west, a limited number of urban trees, and a small suburban mosaic on developed land. 'It is located directly to the south of Citadel Station and Carlisle City Centre, bordered by Water Street to the north-east and east, James Street to the south and south-west, and the Victoria Viaduct along its western edge.' According to the report the site lies partly within the City Centre Conservation Area and it states: 'Citadel Station is the largest building in the immediate area, bordering the site to the north. 'Its detached west wall serves as a retaining structure for the station platforms and forms the main façade facing south.' According to the report a separate application was approved for the redevelopment of Court Square, which lies to the front of the station, to include public realm enhancements, reconfiguration of highway, pedestrianisation of square, improved car park access, and relocation of the Lawson's Monument in February 2025. The report adds: 'The overall proposals for the station consist of two primary areas which can be defined as, Court Square which focuses on pedestrianisation and public realm remodelling, and the Southern Gateway (the subject of this application), which focuses on the development of a new station entrance and car park to the south. 'The station building would be flipped from its current layout, with most vehicle traffic being diverted toward the new Southern Gateway. 'Current retail units at George Square would be demolished to make way for a new car park and a separate permission will be required for demolition. 'The existing station car park would be retained for staff and those with disabilities and would see a substantial reduction in vehicle traffic.'

Plans for railway station car park entrance given the green light

PLANS to alter an entrance to the car park at Carlisle railway station have been approved. It is part of a wider project to redevelop the land around the main building. The entrance is located in Collier Lane, off Court Square. Members of Cumberland Council's planning committee met at the Civic Centre in Carlisle on Wednesday (February 19) to consider the planning application. Stephen Daniel, a planning officer at the council, told members that the entrance would be widened, with part of a sandstone wall removed to enable better access. The report states: 'The Court Square public realm works include the relocation of all Network Rail staff parking to the car park to the front of the station, with the car park also being used for parking for those with disabilities. 'Access to this car park would be via the archway to Collier Lane or from Crown Street, with egress being via Crown Street. 'To enable the required vehicle access into the car park area a section of the stone boundary wall, including a red sandstone pier, would need to be demolished and these works require Listed Building Consent. 'The existing sandstone would be carefully removed, salvaged and re-used to erect a new sandstone wall adjacent to the widened access. 'The stonework that forms the existing red sandstone pier would be carefully removed and reused within the reconstructed wall at a reduced height. 'The proposals also show a brick pier that adjoins the rear of Carlisle Station Hotel being demolished and the rendered wall that it is attached to being made good.' Councillor Roger Dobson (Corby and Hayton, Lib Dems) said: 'I think this is very straightforward.' When it was put to the vote it was unanimously supported by the members of the planning committee.
