Edinburgh taxi firm torched in early hours of morning as gangsters take credit for attack

Two men have been arrested by cops in connection with the incident in the early hours of Monday. An Edinburgh cab company has been torched for the second time as a notorious gang took credit for the attack. The offices of Capital Cars on Gorgie Road caught fire at around 3am this morning. Two men, aged 25 and 26, have since been arrested. The firm, owned by businessman Stephen Rose, was previously targeted in May when two cars were torched outside the premises. Tamo Junto - the Gangland enforcers for Dubai-based Mr Big Ross McGill - say they are responsible for Monday's blaze and claim Scotland's terrifying turf war has been reignited. An underworld source said: "The TMJ foot soliders are seriously back on the warpath in Edinburgh." A property on Barton Avenue West was also attacked a few hours earlier, at 12.10am. The source added: "Two guys showed up at a house in Barton Avenue West with machetes during the night, but private security phoned the police." Officers are investigating both incidents. The force said it is treating keeping links to gangland activity, under the Operation Portaledge probe, as one line of enquiry. A spokesperson said: "Around 3am on Monday, 18 August, 2025, we were made aware of a wilful fire at a premises in Gorgie Road, Edinburgh. "Emergency services attended, however the fire had not taken hold and there was no significant damage. "There were no reports of any injuries. "Two men, aged 25 and 26, were arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing." "At around 12.20am on Monday, 18 August, 2025, officers received a report of a disturbance outside a property in Barnton Avenue West, Edinburgh. "Officers attended and a search of the area was carried out. No person was found and enquiries are ongoing."There were no reports of any injuries or any damage to the property." A gang war erupted on the streets of Edinburgh in March when McGill's Tamo Junto (TMJ) gang went after mob boss Mark Richardson and his associates after the kingpin's men paid for a cocaine deal with fake bank notes. The gang torched a series of properties and businesses throughout the city, before the war spread to Glasgow in April when they went after the Daniel crime clan over their links to Richardson. Stephen Rose denied any links to gangland activity when vehicles were attacked at his business premises in May and said that the affected cars were leased to self-employed drivers. Speaking at the time, he said: "We rent out vehicles to self-employed drivers within the Private Hire Industry who operate on ride sharing platforms. "This latest event appears to be an escalation of prior incidents, and we are taking the matter seriously." The Police Scotland investigation on the gang war in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Operation Portaledge, has led to 55 people being arrested so far. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
