Man charged with murder after body of 'adoring dad' discovered on road

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after the body of a man was discovered on a road in Perthshire. Emergency services were called to the Dunning to Kinross road at around 7am on Friday after Stephen Speedie, 29, was found dead. Police initially arrested a 40-year-old woman and two men, aged 36 and 42, in connection with the incident. John Higgins, from Perth and Kinross, made no plea during an appearance at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday. The 42-year-old was charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. Higgins was committed for further examination and remanded in custody. He is due to appear again within the next eight days. A GoFundMe page was set up by Mr Speedie's family to help with funeral costs. A tribute reads: 'Our son Stephen Speedie sadly passed away suddenly on Friday, June 13. 'The funds will be used for funeral costs and to give him the best send off and would help us massively. 'Stephen sadly leaves behind his beautiful two-year-old daughter, who he adored dearly.' A Facebook group was set up in his memory, with one person writing: 'Stephen, I can't believe you're gone, brother. We had the best times and great memories that will always stay with me. 'You were the life and soul of the parties and a great friend that I'm truly going to miss.' Police Scotland said extensive inquiries into Mr Speedie's death were continuing. Detective chief inspector Carron McKellar said: 'Our thoughts are with Stephen's family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time. 'Officers are offering support and keeping them updated with the progress of our investigation.' Two suspects have been charged amid a murder investigation following the death of a man in Perthshire. Officers received a report of concern for a man on the road between Dunning and Kinross at about 7am on Friday. Stephen Speedie, a 29-year-old from Perth, was pronounced dead at the scene. In an update on Monday, Police Scotland said Mr Speedie's death is now being treated as murder following a post-mortem examination. Detectives believe it to be an "isolated incident" with "no wider risk to the public". Two men, aged 36 and 42, have been arrested and charged in connection with the case. The pair are due to appear before Perth Sheriff Court. A 40-year-old woman was also arrested but has been released pending further investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Carron McKellar said: "Our thoughts are with Stephen's family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time. His body discovered on the Dunning to Kinross Road in Perthshire at around 7am. ‌ Two men aged 36 and 42, were arrested and charged in connection with the death and are set to appear at Perth Sheriff Court today, while the probe remains ongoing. ‌ A fundraiser has also been set up by Stephen's heartbroken dad to pay for the funeral and support the family through this difficult time. Dougie Bryce wrote: "Our son Stephen Speedie sadly passed away suddenly on Friday June 13th. The funds will be used for funeral costs and to give him the best send off and would help us massively. "Stephen sadly leaves behind his beautiful two year old daughter Katie-Rose who he adored dearly." A Facebook page has also been set up for the tragic dad which was flooded with tributes. Samantha-Jane Turner said: "I can't stop thinking about you, you will always have a special place in my heart forever and always." James Alexander David Brown said: "Rest in peace bro. Brother from another mother, I can't believe you gone I was shocked when I saw people posting it, but you will not be forgotten. ‌ "As Victor says to Jack on Still Game - get back doon they stairs." While Kaitlin Kirkpatrick said: "Rest in peace Speedie, you were such a character, always making everyone laugh and always there for your friends. "We didn't know each other extremely well but enjoyed many-a night out together and so many laughs, I'm so saddened by the loss of you. Rest easy up there and know you will be missed by so many." ‌ Taylor Harrison added: "Heaven has gained a brilliant guy and lovely guy he will be watching us all we will miss him and his banter."
