Iowa football bolsters secondary with commitment from safety in 2026 recruiting class

First and foremost I want to thank GOD for being there through my journey, I want to thank my mama for being there and letting me make my decisions and just help guide me,I want to thank coach newcomb for helping me learn the game and becoming a young man. Want to thank coach… On a day when the sports world was preoccupied by a Kevin Durant trade and game seven of the NBA Finals, Iowa football added to its 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of Ronnie Hill. The Hawkeyes are once again finding diamonds in the rough as their latest commitment comes from a hidden gem whom they witnessed firsthand rather recently. The Hawkeyes offered the 6-1 183 183-pound safety on Sunday after he participated in a camp with them on Thursday. Hill committed the same day to give Iowa its tenth commit in the 2026 class. Hill is a three-star prospect out of Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Adlai Stevenson High School. Hill chose the Hawkeyes over offers from Austin Peay, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Kent State. He's the 125th-best safety prospect and 18th-best prospect from Michigan in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports. Hill is a dual-sport high school athlete, also competing in track and field. Hill also plays wide receiver for Adlai Stevenson, where he had 19 receptions for 292 yards and a touchdown during his junior year. He also added 11 tackles on the defensive end of the ball in just four games. He's the second defensive back in Iowa's 2026 class. Over 100 Gannett employees to lose jobs when Sterling Heights facility closes

Layoffs will begin July 7 and continue through July for a total 109 employees at the Gannett Publishing Services production facility in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The Macomb County facility prints the Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News and about 30 other newspapers from Michigan and Ohio. The Free Press reported on the decision in January, saying those newspapers' production will be moved to other facilities. The building was previously sold with a lease to Gannett, the Free Press said. The details of the layoff were related in a WARN Act notice filed May 1 with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, also known as WARN act, requires companies going through mass layoffs and / or site closures to issue advance public notice to the state's labor department, should that step meet certain requirements for the size of company or number of people involved. In that letter, Gannett said it is permanently closing the production facility at 6200 Metropolitan Parkway, with 109 production employees facing a permanent layoff. The company said the layoffs will take place from July 1 through January; but most will happen on or about August 4. The positions involved include press operator, materials handler, engineer, packaging manager and journeyman electrician. Some of the affected employees are represented by unions.
