Binghamton Bearcats Softball looks to continue recent success
VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton Bearcats Softball team is gearing up for more action, as their 2025 season kicks off Friday in Florida.
Coming off a regular season co-championship in 2024, tied at 14-6 with UAlbany, this time around they'll be looking to have the top spot all to themselves.
'I think we're more prepared than we could ever be,' said Head Coach Jess Bump. 'If we practice for one more week, I think we would be in the same exact spot as we are right now.'
The team comes into the season ranked 2nd in the preseason poll, just 1 point behind Albany. They also have 5 players named to the preseason all-conference team, being catcher Elisa Allen, outfielder Brianna Santos, designated player Emma Lawson, utility Lindsey Walter, and pitcher Brianna Roberts.
'We really put extra effort into helping the freshmen and passing on the knowledge that we've gained on to them,' said Walter.
The Bearcats will compete in 4 tournaments and 23 games leading up to their conference opener, which will be at the Bearcats Sports Complex against the Great Danes.
Friday, 2/7 they kick off their season in the Stetson Tournament, facing Chattanooga at noon and the hosts at 5:30.
