Notre Dame QB Steve Angeli reportedly entering transfer portal
Angeli was Riley Leonard's backup in 2024 and was competing for the starting job in 2025 The player who many assumed would be Notre Dame's starting quarterback in 2025 is hitting the transfer portal. Steve Angeli is expected to explore a transfer from Notre Dame, according to CBS Sports. That means the Irish will start either CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey in Week 1, barring a late addition via the spring transfer window. Angeli served as Riley Leonard's backup during the 2024 season as Notre Dame made it to the national championship game. Angeli appeared in 11 games and was 24-of-36 passing for 268 yards and three touchdowns. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement One of those pass attempts came in the national title loss to Ohio State. Angeli threw a pass on a fake punt play that went through his receiver's hands and fell incomplete. In Notre Dame's Orange Bowl semifinal win over Penn State, Angeli saw playing time after Leonard's head hit the turf. Before Leonard was cleared of a concussion and returned to the game, Angeli was 6-of-7 passing for 44 yards. Before the 2024 season, Angeli started Notre Dame's 40-8 Sun Bowl win over Oregon State at the end of 2023. He was 15-of-19 for 232 yards and three touchdowns in that game. With Angeli likely heading to another school, the Irish will turn to a pair of four-star recruits. Minchey was a member of the 2023 recruiting class and ranked as the No. 12 pro-style quarterback in the country and the No. 209 player overall. Carr was a member of the 2024 recruiting class and was the top player in the state of Michigan. He was the No. 4 pro-style QB in the class and the No. 50 player overall. Carr is the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr.

A pair of experts believe that Steve Angeli has found his next football home
It has been quite the last few days for now former Notre Dame football quarterback Steve Angeli. Less than a week ago, the New Jersey native saw the writing on the wall and decided to move away from the Irish. Yesterday was the start of his re-recruitment, as he took a visit to Syracuse. Advertisement By all accounts the trip went extremely well for Angeli, as on Tuesday both Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos of On3 made a prediction that he'll land with the Orange. As of right now, there has been no other news of the quarterback taking another visit, so it would make sense that he's highly considering joining the Syracuse football program. The Orange had the nation's leading passer this past fall in another transfer, Kyle McCord, and are looking to strike gold once again. If the two are correct and Angeli does transfer to Syracuse, he'll be back in South Bend on Nov. 22, Senior Day, when the two teams are scheduled to face off against each other. Notre Dame football loses one of its quarterbacks to the transfer portal
It was almost inevitable after what we saw during Notre Dame football's spring game that one of the three quarterbacks would move on. On Thursday, Steve Angeli entered the transfer portal according to CBS Sports Matt Zenitz. The junior from New Jersey had sat behind two starters as he waited for his turn to run the Irish offense, but that opportunity never really presented itself. While he did start the 2023 Sun Bowl, leading Notre Dame to a 40-8 win over Oregon State with three passing touchdowns, coach Marcus Freeman still brought in transfer Riley Leonard for the next year. Advertisement Although it turned out to be the right move, Angeli played a huge part in the Irish's College Football Playoff victory over Penn State, subbing for Leonard following an injury and guiding the Irish to a field goal just before the first half ended. Those three points ended up being huge; that was the margin of victory for Notre Dame. Unfortunately, with younger players CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey looking much better this spring, Angeli saw the writing on the wall and will move on. We wish him the best of luck as he continues his collegiate career elsewhere. This article originally appeared on Fighting Irish Wire: Steve Angeli will transfer from Notre Dame football

Steve Angeli will be at Notre Dame's Senior Day even though he's no longer with the team
All the rumors turned out to be true regarding former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli and the Syracuse Orange. On Wednesday afternoon, through his social media account, the New Jersey native decided to make it official and announced his transfer to the ACC program. Viewed as one of the top players in the spring portal window, Angeli goes to an offense that isn't afraid to throw it around. Advertisement This past season saw another transfer, Kyle McCord, lead the nation in multiple passing categories, including yards and attempts. It's a stark contrast from Notre Dame's offense, who mainly relied on a run game that set up the pass. It's the other way around at Syracuse, and it will showcase Angeli's passing abilities. Even though he now has left the program, it won't be the last time he's in South Bend as a player, as the Orange will be the Irish's opponent on Senior Day. It will be very interesting what kind of ovation Angeli gets, but if I had to guess, it's a warm one.
