Medical distress call results in theft charges for Barrie man

A police cruiser and ambulance outside the emergency department at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ont. (CTV News/Steve Mansbridge) Police in Barrie arrested a man following a medical distress call that resulted in the discovery of stolen IDs, debit and credit cards, and later, thefts from unlocked vehicles. Police say they received a call from emergency services personnel after the distress call in the Ardagh Road area Tuesday morning, and learned he was reportedly in possession of items belonging to two other people. Police believe the 36-year-old man had also been going through unlocked vehicles and 'helping himself to items' that they say he was found to have in his possession. Later that afternoon, officers arrived at the hospital to place the accused under arrest. He faces two counts of failing to comply with probation orders, possession of property obtained by crime, and theft under $5,000. He has since been released from custody to await a court appearance. The incident prompted a reminder from police to the public to never leave valuable items unattended in an unlocked vehicle for opportunistic thieves to swipe.

As Wasaga Beach continues one of its most ambitious redevelopment projects in its history, including the demolition of several longstanding buildings along the iconic Beach Area One, the Town has its sights set on celebrating this summer with the announcement of its Summer 2025 Live Music Lineup. 'While we kick-off the reinvention of our main commercial area at Beach Area 1, we are also ready to kick-off an incredible summer,' said Mayor Brian Smith. 'The beach is just the beginning.' The beachfront town is planning to entice residents and visitors with more than 30 concerts, including outdoor live performances, fireworks shows, and movies under the stars. The summer concert kicks off June 27 at the Wasaga Stars Arena. Other major events include the return of Trail Tunes on June 7 and the annual Stonebridge Wasaga Beach Blues Festival in September. Alongside the music, the town offers a full slate of family-friendly programming. Food trucks will set up shop in a new 'Fun Zone' at Beach Area One, and outdoor movie nights begin July 2 with a screening of Wicked. Events like the 5K Foam Fest on July 19 and the Multisport Triathalon on August 23 are also set to return. The Town encourages residents and visitors to explore the new events while watching the community's transformation unfold - a process that may signals a new chapter for the town's shoreline.
