Woman arrested after reportedly kidnapping, attacking a child in Dayton, police say
A 33-year-old woman was arrested after a reported assault and kidnapping in Dayton over the weekend, according to Dayton Police Department Lieutenant Steven Bauer. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Dayton police responded to reports of a kidnapping on West Hillcrest Avenue around 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 22. When officers arrived at the address on West Hillcrest Avenue, they learned that a 33-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man went into the house and started attacking a 12-year-old. The suspects allegedly forced the child into a car and drove to a house on Lexington Avenue, Bauer said. They reportedly attacked the child again at the house. Officers found the 12-year-old at the Lexington Avenue address and called for medical help, according to Bauer. Officers on scene arrested the woman, but it is unclear what charges she may be facing. Bauer said investigators determined that the 12-year-old may be a sexual assault suspect. CARE House detectives responded to the scene and are actively investigating. Arrest made in shooting at Dayton apartment complex
A man was arrested after a shooting at a Dayton apartment complex over the weekend. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Lt. Steven Bauer, with Dayton Police, confirmed Monday that the man's injuries were non-life-threatening. Bauer also confirmed that a 36-year-old man was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. The shooting remains under investigation by the Dayton Police Department's Violent Offender Unit. Man arrested after welfare check leads to hours-long SWAT standoff
A man was arrested after a welfare check led to a SWAT standoff in Dayton early Saturday. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] As News Center 7 previously reported, around 1:39 a.m. crews were dispatched to the 2900 block of Preston Ave for a welfare check. Steven Bauer with Dayton police. The suspect, a 52-year-old man, was armed during the assault, police said. The man refused to follow orders which prompted SWAT and a hostage negotiation team to be called. After around four hours the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody. When they got closer, they saw the driver unconscious, according to Dayton Police Lt. Steven Bauer. They managed to wake the driver, but he took off and crashed into a utility pole. Body camera video showed when officers tried to get him out of the car, he did not cooperate and officers tased him. The man had a gun when he was not supposed to and officers believe he may have been intoxicated, Lt. Bauer said. Online jail records identify the man as Travis Matthews. 2 injured in shooting that caused stray bullets to hit local fire station
Police have released more details about a shooting that caused stray gunfire to hit a local fire station.
