Eminem feared dying amid addiction troubles

Eminem feared he might die amid his struggles with addiction. The 52-year-old rapper became addicted to prescription pills amid his sudden rise to stardom in the early 2000s, and Eminem has confessed to fearing for his life at one point in time. He said in his new Stans documentary: "I got into this vicious cycle of, 'I'm depressed so I need more pills,' and then your tolerance gets so high that you end up overdosing. "I woke up in the hospital and I didn't know what happened. I woke up in the hospital with tubes in me and s*** and I couldn't get up, I wanted to move. "After the overdose, I came home like I needed something … like, I'm gonna die if I don't do anything." Eminem - whose real name is Marshall Mathers - actually missed the birth of his daughter due to his addiction struggles, and that proved to be a turning point in his life. The rap star - who is one of the best-selling artists of all time - shared: "I cried because it was like, 'Oh my god, I missed that.' I kept saying to myself, 'Do you want to f****** miss this again? Do you want to miss everything? If you can't do it for yourself, you f****** p****, at least do it for them.' I realised I'm never doing this again." Eminem's new documentary is directed by Steven Leckart, who jumped at the chance to work on the project. Speaking about the documentary, Steven told Us Weekly: "I grew up on hip hop in the '80s and '90s, and became a fan of Eminem's music in '99 and watched his rise on MTV. "So when the opportunity came to me to have the conversation with him and his team to try to come up with a documentary based on one of the most iconic songs ever written, I was like, 'Yeah, of course, that sounds wonderful.' So then it was just a question of coming up with the right approach."

Eminem's Manager Finally Reveals Secret Detail About ‘Stan' Song

Eminem's legendary track 'Stan' remains one of the most talked-about songs in hip-hop history. With its lasting influence on pop culture, fans have often wondered about the creative process behind it. Recently, Eminem's longtime manager revealed an unexpected detail and disclosed some timeless secrets regarding the song's background. Here's everything you need to know. What did Eminem's manager say about the Stan song? Eminem's manager, Paul Rosenberg, said 'Stan' was just a name that rhymed with 'fan,' not a blend of 'stalker' and 'fan.' Recently, Eminem's longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, finally shed light on one of the most persistent fan theories surrounding 'Stan.' He explained that the name Stan was neither a witty acronym nor a pun. Rather, it was simply selected because it rhymed nicely with the song. However, this inadvertently gave rise to a term now firmly established in popular trends. Since its release in 2000, the term has evolved and made its way into a dictionary-worthy word used to describe intense fandom. It has become synonymous with describing overly enthusiastic or obsessive fans of well-known musicians, actors, and other celebrities. The Oxford English Dictionary officially added 'Stan' in 2017 and recognized its use as both a noun and a verb. During an interview with The Independent UK, Paul and director Steven Leckart discussed the details of their current project, a limited-release documentary about Eminem titled Stans. He mentioned, '[Mathers] says that it was coincidental.' He further elaborated on the 'Stan' portmanteau. 'It was just the name that rhymed with 'fan,' and he just created it based on that. So that was a happy coincidence.' The documentary is about to be released shortly. Eventually, the creators have also chosen to interview superfans of the iconic singer. For instance, Zolt Shady, a woman who has Eminem's face tattooed 22 times on her body. Another fan dedicated 10 years to working in the same diner where Mathers once worked, all in hopes of catching a glimpse of him one day. Rosenberg revealed that the 'most surprising' aspect for him while creating the documentary was how deeply Mathers' fans connected with him through his music on so many different levels. Stans will hit cinemas worldwide for a limited run. The film will play exclusively at AMC Theatres in the U.S. for one weekend only, starting Thursday, August 7. The Eminem-produced doc (trailer, below) opened the inaugural London edition of the SXSW festival earlier this year, and is inspired by the artist's 2000 iconic song 'Stan,' about an obsessive, unstable fan who takes his admiration for the rapper too far. In London, director Steven Leckart described how he flipped the music documentary format on its head. Stans film follows not just the musician's artistic trajectory but that of his most loyal superfans, with the doc 'offering an entertaining and vibrant look at the modern nature of fandom and how social media has irrevocably changed the relationship between artists and their audience.' (The term 'Stan' was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017). Leckart said after the premiere during a Q&A: 'I was raised on hip-hop in the '80s and '90s, and I grew up on MTV. So I witnessed [Eminem's] rise's first hand and I was a fan, but I think I just kept coming back to the song 'Stan' and really thinking about how unconventional it was and still is.' He continued: 'I just saw an opportunity to make an unconventional doc … We've seen a glut of docs that are just so straightforward and standard. And so this is a beautiful opportunity to do something different.' Other producers include Paul Rosenberg, Stuart Parr, Antoine Fuqua, Tony DiSanto, David Schiff with DIGA Studios in association with Shady Films, Fuqua Films, Interscope Films, and MTV Entertainment Studios. Bruce Gillmer, Amanda Culkowski and Michael Maniaci are Executive Producers for MTV Entertainment Studios. Stans will be available on Paramount+ internationally later this year.
