Man's assault charge upgraded to murder, B.C. homicide team says
A criminal charge stemming from a deadly incident in Coquitlam, B.C., earlier this month has been upgraded, homicide investigators announced Wednesday.
Authorities said Coquitlam RCMP found a man seriously injured after responding to a report of an assault with a weapon on Midvale Street on the morning of Aug. 1.
The victim, whose name has not been publicly released, later died in hospital.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said prosecutors initially charged 59-year-old Steven Mosdell with aggravated assault, but that the count was upgraded to second-degree murder on Wednesday.
'As part of the investigation, IHIT has determined that the victim and Mr. Mosdell were known to one another,' said Cpl. Esther Tupper, in a statement.
IHIT is continuing to investigate the incident, and asked anyone with information on the case to reach out.
Investigators are looking for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam video taken near the 400 block of Midvale Street between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 1.
IHIT said it won't be releasing further information while the case is before the courts.
