Kinston Fire and Rescue unveils new jet ski
KINSTON, N.C (WNCT)- The Kinston Fire and Rescue team introduced a brand-new jet ski to the fleet, and it was the first of its kind.
The jet ski was awarded through the Duke Energy Foundation Tropical Readiness Grant. Along with a jet ski, they also received water rescue vests, throw bags, and helmets. Administrative captain, Stevens Nimmo, says the response times will see the biggest impact, especially during aquatic rescues.
'So, our goal is to be able to respond to water emergencies much faster with the jet ski than we can with our water rescue boats,' Stevens Nimmo said. 'So, hopefully we can take five to ten minutes off of the response time or five or ten minutes off of getting to the person who needs assistance on the river'
The grant was awarded late last year, and now the fire department is looking forward to seeing the immediate impact. Talks of an aquatic rescue team are also going through discussions.
