Popular chicken shop Fowl and Fury announce long-awaited opening date for Canton store

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A well established name on the Cardiff food scene is Fowl and Fury who have shot to success after starting as a pop-up in Sticky Fingers. Serving Nashville hot chicken, they are now opening their second chicken shop. The business, which started in lockdown in owner Jamie Rees' back garden before beginning in pop-up hot spot Sticky Fingers, currently has one restaurant in Cathays. Now they have announced the opening date for their new site in Canton on Cowbridge Road East. The Cowbridge Road East restaurant will open on Wednesday, July 11. They will be open from 5pm on their first day but only until they have served their first 100 sandos, for just £2 each. They are taking over the former Wiwo noodle bar and it has been eight months since the Fowl and Fury team first announced their new site, meaning customers are desperate to know when they can get a taste of Nashville in the west side of the city. Fowl and Fury is run by married couple Jamie and Natalia Rees and sells chicken in a range of heat levels from the gentle mild up to the brain melting Nashville Fury. Customers can either order chicken tenders or a sandwich (referred to as a 'sando') as well as a selection of sides. They've proudly called their four-table restaurant on Wyeverne Road in Cathays 'home' since 2022. Alongside their beloved sando, Fowl and Fury plan to offer milkshakes, soft serve and lemonades on the menu as well as extended opening hours at their new site. The team have not had an easy ride since taking over the site on King's Road in Canton. Writing on their Insta in February, they said: "We had originally intended our canton location to open by the end of January, then Feb, then March. knows?!? "There have unfortunately been more setbacks with the new restaurant than we can count (anything above 8 I'm out) and when you think there isn't a way something else can go wrong we find something we didn't even know could be a problem in the first place. "Plumbing, canopy, electricity, roofing, extraction, shutters, one of these things has had issues that push the build back week after week." In a post announcing their opening today, they said: "That's it! We're gonna open! Wednesday 11th of June from 5pm! "There will be 100 sandos available for £2 per sando. "Now though, it looks like they've got their issues sorted and are ready to go. First come first served. One sando per person. "One all sandos are gone, we will close for the night and reopen on Thursday at 4pm for regular hours." Fowl and Fury is not the only new opening in Cardiff. On Tuesday, June 3 new sandwich shop Square + Fair opened its doors for the first time. Located in the Royal Arcade Square + Fair is a new sandwich shop and offers up chunky focaccia sandwiches with fillings such as The Notorious PIG (pulled sticky cola pork), What the Cluck (shredded roast chicken with truffle cream cheese) and Sunday Best (roast Welsh beef with a gravy dipping tub). Not only do Square + Fair serve big sandwiches, they also offer a crisp option you may have not come across before. The cafe is home to a crisp station where you serve yourself plain crisps, add in the flavouring of your choice which includes options like chip shop curry, doner kebab, and southern fried chicken, shake, and away you go. Nostalgic treat makes ice cream debut at Handel's

(WKBN) — A childhood favorite snack is getting chilly this summer at Handel's. Read next: Champion fire dept. warns of gas leak The local ice cream company announced Monday that this summer's special flavor will be Frosted Animal Cookie. This limited-time flavor is part of its 80th anniversary summer kickoff. 'Frosted Animal Cookie takes a beloved childhood treat and transforms it into a scoop that's both playful and nostalgic,' said Hillary Frei, Chief Marketing Officer of Handel's Ice Cream. 'As we celebrate 80 years of Handel's, there's no better time to share a joyful flavor that captures the spirit of summer and brings out the kid in all of us.' The flavor is a playful twist on a classic treat that's sure to spark childhood memories, featuring a cake-flavored ice cream base with a vanilla frosting ripple and frosted animal cookies mixed in. It becomes available at participating locations beginning Tuesday, June 3. The idea for the new flavor came from franchisee Joseph Ogden, who owns and operates the Thousand Oaks and Oxnard locations in California. During his training in Ohio, he pitched the concept for Frosted Animal Cookie, inspired by his childhood field trips to the zoo and the frosted cookies his grandmother used to share with him. 'I wanted to create something that felt like a bite of childhood,' said Ogden. 'Frosted Animal Cookie is fun, colorful, and packed with nostalgic flavor. It reminds me of the cookies my grandma used to give me after a day at the zoo. I'm proud to see it come to life and be part of Handel's 80th anniversary celebration.' Handel's regularly showcases franchisee-submitted flavors, kicking off 2025 with Sticky Fingers and Raspberry Dream Cream. Kristy Regula contributed to this report. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Stockport Market: Revamp of town has given market a boost

Market traders have said the wider regeneration of their town is having a positive impact on their businesses. Stallholders at Stockport Market said it was busier than ever over the last 18 said the revival of the nearby Underbanks area of the town, where many food and drink businesses are based, was also helping. Stockport Council said the number of visitors to the market was now higher than before the pandemic thanks to regular monthly events. The historic market is said to trace its origins back more than 1,000 years to the late Anglo-Saxon Dave Walker, 59, said: "Trade is very good for us, it's a fantastic place and there are more and more people coming."There are more than 30 independent traders working on the market, which opens on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Butcher Scott Donnelley, 47, added: "You get people just coming here for a chat. "It's a good place, there are a lot of good people. "It's a very homely place, there's a really nice feel. "Every week I've noticed that it gets busier." Traders have raised concerns over the market's opening hours and the fact it is shut on Biegaj, 33, who works at Polish bakery Sticky Fingers, said: "Every day that we are open is better for all the traders, it's more chances to sell."But we do manage to sell nearly all of the stock most days."The bakery is also set to open a new site in Underbanks, with the market stall proving so popular."We're very busy most of the time, the only issue is we only have space for four little tables and it's often not enough for our customers," Ms Biegaj added: "But the people in Stockport are very supportive, they want to support local traders, there's a good community. "They could go anywhere but they choose here for the quality and the atmosphere." New flats are being built in the town as well as a new transport interchange and Viaduct Park, as part of Stockport's leader Mark Hunter said Stockport Market, which was named Britain's Best Small Indoor Market in 2023, is at the "heart of our plans"He said that "at a time when markets elsewhere are closing, Stockport's is thriving".Mr Hunter added: "It's a place full of history, character, and community spirit, and we know just how much it means to the people of Stockport." Handel's unveils new flavor, this year's first

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Handel's comes up with new flavors every year and Tuesday is the debut of this year's first one. It's called Sticky Fingers. It's peanut butter ice cream with a caramel ripple, brownie pieces and sea salt truffles. It's the creation of Bruce Hill, an East Palestine native who's also a Handel's franchisee of the Canfield location and one in Stowe. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Smores and Caramel Apple flavors. Sticky Fingers is his newest development. 'I think it'll be super popular. I mean, who doesn't love peanut butter, chocolate, brownies and caramel? It'll take a while for people to figure it out. You'll see it in the windows, on the flavor slots. They follow us on social media. It's posted all over that. So it should be, should be a hit,' said Leslie Christiansen. Sticky Fingers is a limited-time flavor and it's timed up to help Handel's celebrate 80 years of making scoops of excitement. There could be three more flavors making their debut later this year.
