Body found in Valentine's Day murder suspect hunt
A body has been found in the search for a suspect after a woman was killed in a shooting on Valentine's Day. Edvard Stockings is suspected of shooting his wife, Lisa Smith, in the car park of the Three Horseshoes pub in Knockholt, Kent, on 14 February. Police said they believed Mr Stockings then drove to the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, near Dartford, and entered the Thames. Officers have now said a body was found in the river near Rainham, Essex, at roughly 15:45 GMT on Friday. The body has not been formally identified but the man's family have been informed. Mr Stockings is alleged to have shot Ms Smith, 43, from Slough, at about 19:00 before fleeing the scene. CCTV footage captured the sound of three gunshots, followed by shouting and screaming. A car and gun, both linked to the suspect, were found "next to the Dartford crossing", police said. They added that the car was found on the bridge. Pub shooting suspect believed dead, police say
A man suspected of fatally shooting his wife outside a pub in Kent is believed to have died after falling into the River Thames, police say. Edvard Stockings is suspected of shooting Lisa Smith in the car park of the Three Horseshoes pub in Knockholt last Friday. Det Ch Insp Dave Higham said: "Our inquiries have concluded that the suspect is believed to have died after falling into the River Thames." Mr Stockings's body has yet to be found but searches are ongoing, Kent Police added. Ms Smith, 43, was shot dead shortly after 19:00 GMT on Valentines Day. Det Ch Insp Higham added: "This murder has led to the senseless loss of a beloved daughter and mother and our thoughts remain with Lisa's family." A friend of Mr Stockings, who was also known as Smith, previously said he received a call from him where he told him: "She's dead, I love you. I'll see you on the other side." CCTV footage captured the sound of three gunshots, followed by shouting and screaming. A car and gun, linked to the suspect, were found "next to the Dartford crossing", police said. They added that the car was found on the bridge. Mr Stockings's friend, Leslie Thompson, said he had known Mr Stockings for more than 30 years and the shooting did not make sense, adding: "They were both the life and soul of the party. We really don't know why he has done it. I'm baffled." He added that Mr Stockings was "unbelievably close" to his father and had been deeply affected by his death two years ago. "He's had a breakdown," Mr Thompson concluded, adding he was "one million percent sure... [Mr Stockings is] in the river." A police spokesperson said the force would be assisting the coroner. Valentine's Day pub shooting suspect ‘rang friend to confess to what he had done'
A man accused of shooting his wife outside a pub on Valentine's Day later phoned his friend to confess what he had done, it has been claimed. Lisa Smith, from Slough, was killed outside The Three Horseshoes in Knockholt, near Sevenoaks, Kent, on Friday. Police believe the prime suspect in the shooting is her husband, Edvard Stockings, also known by the surname Smith. A car linked to Mr Stockings was found on Friday evening abandoned with a firearm inside on the Queen Elizabeth II bridge, near Dartford. He is believed to have jumped from the bridge after fleeing the scene. His body has not been found after more than three days of searches along the river. It has now been reported that Mr Stockings phoned a friend after the killing and told him: 'She's dead, I love you. I'll see you on the other side.' Leslie Thompson told the BBC that less than two hours after the shooting he received a call from Mr Stockings in which his friend said: 'I can't live, we've all gone together' and that 'armed police will probably shoot me'. He said he believed his friend had suffered a breakdown and had been greatly affected by the death of his father two years ago. Mr Thompson told the broadcaster he could not understand what had happened. 'They were both the life and soul of the party. We really don't know why he has done it. I'm baffled.' Smith, who also used the surname Stockings, leaves behind two children – one of them in his 20s, the other younger. Officers were called to The Three Horseshoes at just after 7pm on Friday. Ms Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. A CCTV camera near to the pub captured the sound of three gunshots, followed by shouting and screaming. Kent Police said it was not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting and there was not believed to be a wider risk to the public. Flowers and balloons, with a number of notes addressed to Ms Smith, have been placed on a small patch of grass next to The Three Horseshoes. One card read: 'Our love and prayers are with your family, especially your boys and granddaughter. May your light continue to shine as bright as it always has.' Balloons with the words 'a wonderful mum' were left tied to a brick near the flowers.

Kent pub shooting suspect 'rang friend and said 'she's dead' within hours of killing'
The man suspected of shooting a woman dead outside a Kent pub is alleged to have phoned a friend and told her what he had done, according to the BBC. Lisa Smith, 43, was killed after a shooting outside the Three Horseshoes pub in Knockholt at around 7pm on Valentine's Day (February 14). Her suspected killer, Edvard Stockings, is believed to have fallen from the Queen Elizabeth II bridge in Dartford following the shooting. Police said a car and gun were found near the bridge, and that a man was seen on the wrong side of the barrier. He has still not been found after three days of searching. Stockings, also known by the surname Smith, called friend, Leslie Thompson, less than two hours after the shooting, as reported by the BBC. He reportedly said: 'She's dead, I love you, I'll see you on the other side' during the call. Thompson said that the phone call had led him to believe that Stockings had shot his wife. Stockings allegedly said: 'I can't live, we've all gone together' during the call, and that 'armed police will probably shoot me'. Speaking to the BBC, Leslie said he had known the couple for more than 30 years, adding: 'They were both the life and soul of the party. We really don't know why he has done it. I'm baffled. 'He's had a breakdown. I'm one million per cent sure he is in the river.' The landlady of The Three Horseshoes Michelle Thomas described customers 'screaming, shouting and crying' as they realised what had happened. She told Sky News that she was preparing for the Valentine's dinner service when she heard two loud bangs that she initially thought were fireworks. About 30 people were at the pub for dinner, while 20 more were in the bar as the incident unfolded just after 7pm, she said. 'People were only just starting to sit down, it was early on in the evening,' she told Sky. She also described how an off-duty firearms officer intervened to get the situation under control. She told the broadcaster the victim had been to the pub before but 'wasn't a regular'. Police have said that the suspect was known to the victim.
