New York Comedy Festival to Feature Louis C.K., Margaret Cho and ‘Strangers With Candy' Reunion
Laughs are loading for this year's New York Comedy Festival. The festival will feature more than 200 comedians at 100 shows at venues across the five boroughs for 10 days from Nov. 7-16. This year's headliners include such acts as the Basement Yard, Hannah Berner, Michael Blackson, Louis C.K., Margaret Cho, Alex Edelman, Chris Fleming, Pete Holmes, Morgan Jay, Ismo, Ryan Long, Nurse John, Yohay Sponder, Trevor Wallace and more. The event, to be held at Town Hall on Nov. 8, is billed as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the show's cancellation. Strangers with Candy aired for three seasons on Comedy Central and became a cult classic thanks to its risqué humor and wild storylines. It cast Sedaris as Jerri Blank, a 46-year-old ex-drug addict who returns to high school to do it a second time as a freshman. As the show grew in popularity, it snagged high-profile guest stars like Will Ferrell, Andy Richter, Tim Meadows, David Cross, Paul Rudd, Winona Ryder and more. It currently streams on Paramount+. Stephen Colbert is headlining a NY Comedy Festival show. Get tickets

In a week where Stephen Colbert has been all over the news for a shocking cancellation, it was also announced he's celebrating another show of his getting the axe. The 'Late Show' host — whose CBS program is now slated to end in May 2026 due to 'financial reasons' — is teaming up with his fellow, former 'Strangers With Candy' cast members Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the cancellation of their subversive, after-school-special skewering 1999-2000 Comedy Central series at New York City's Town Hall on Saturday, Nov. 8. Over its 30-episode, three season and a movie run, Sedaris, Colbert and Dinello's oft-hilarious, boundary-pushing sitcom followed Jerri Blank (Sedaris) a 46-year-old high school freshman who used to be a 'boozer, a user and a loser' and her ironically dramatized, highly-moralized foibles at Flatpoint High. Colbert plays closeted history teacher Chuck Noblet; a few classrooms away, Dinello portrayed his paramour, an art teacher named Geoffrey Jellineck. This one-off reunion is part of the 2025 New York Comedy Festival. Louis C.K. to headline New York Comedy Festival 8 years after sexual misconduct allegations
Can you call it a comeback? Comedian Louis C.K. is set to headline two nights of the New York Comedy Festival later this year – marking one of his first high-profile stand-up acts since being accused of sexual misconduct by five women back in 2017. WireImage The women claimed that the comedian exposed himself and masturbated in front of them without their consent, and C.K. later admitted to the allegations and issued a lengthy apology. 'These stories are true,' the comedian began. 'At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my d–k without asking first, which is also true.' 'The power I had over these women is that they admired me,' C.K. added. 'But what are you supposed to do?' 'These people voted for him. I guess that's what happens when comedy and music come together,' she added. 'I don't believe in cancel culture, but obviously, Louis is not canceled. He seems fine to me. He's touring. He's selling out. He's winning Grammys.' C.K. later returned to the stand-up circuit, too. The New York Comedy Festival — the largest and longest running annual event of its kind in the United States — has announced its initial slate of headliners for 2025, its 21st anniversary, and, as usual, the lineup includes some of the biggest names in comedy and improv, along with stars of the burgeoning podcast world. Among those new voices are Santagato and Alvarez of The Basement Yard. In a statement, the former said, 'I have no idea how many planets had to align for this opportunity to be given to two kids from Queens, but we are so excited and will give New York the best possible show we can.' In addition to this initial slate of headliners, the festival will announce additional shows in the coming months and additional details for what have become staples of the proceedings. They include Stand Up for Heroes, the Bob Woodruff Foundation's fundraiser for military veterans and their families, which draws A-list comedians and musicians, including such regulars as Jon Stewart, Jim Gaffigan, Jerry Seinfeld and Bruce Springsteen, who has proven himself a master of bawdy jokes. Other annual programming includes the New York's Funniest Stand Ups Presented By Threads competition and Comics to Watch.
