When his great-grandmother suffered a serious fall, a 3-year-old boy braved the darkness to help save her life
How a toddler's brave walk into the darkness to get help inspired his family Strasburg, Colorado — When Stephanie Peabody started looking through the security footage taken from her garage camera in Strasburg, Colorado, she was trying to piece together what exactly happened that February night. Eventually, she not only found the answer, but the surprise of a lifetime. It all started when Stephanie and her husband left their 3-year-old son Bridger with his great-grandmother, 78-year-old Sharon Lewis. Bridger and his grandmother were walking into the Peabody home when Lewis tripped and hit her head on a concrete step. She couldn't get up, she was bleeding profusely, and she had left her phone in the car. First, they tried yelling for help from the neighbors, but that did not work. The only solution was for Bridger to return to Lewis' car and get her phone. "He (Bridger) said, 'GG, they don't hear us,'" Lewis recounted to CBS News. "I said, 'I know, so you're going to have to go get my phone.'" It was nighttime, and the path back to the car wasn't lit. It was in total darkness. "I was a lot afraid," Bridger told CBS News. "…It's too dark." "The dark is just a frightful thing for a little guy," Lewis said. That was when Bridger whispered to himself these three little words caught on security video: "Don't be afraid." Up to that point, Bridger had never even opened a car door, let alone faced such a life-and-death challenge. But he was able to courageously make his way to Lewis' car and open the door. The darkness was defeated. "I was so proud of him," Peabody said of her son. It's been about three months since that accident. Lewis has healed, and new lights were installed in the backyard. But perhaps, the most significant change has been the family's new fearless attitudes. Peabody said the incident has inspired her to pursue a career in special education. "It's something I've always wanted to do, but now it's like taking the chance to do it: 'Don't be afraid,'" Peabody said. "I have it tattooed on my arm." It's a reminder for the child inside all of us. Sometimes, true courage is being afraid and charging into the darkness anyway.

Egyptian striker Kouka defends appearing in anti-homophobia match after offensive messages - Talents Abroad
Le Havre Egyptian striker Ahmed "Kouka" Hassan defended his situation after participating in Saturday's 3-2 win over Strasburg in the final day of the league despite of receiving offensive messages urging him not to play before the game and even after it. The final day of Ligue 1 witnessed the league's annual anti-homophobia campaign and despite his rejection for the issue, Kouka gave his club the priority amid its critical situation in the competition. 'I have received a lot of offensive messages to not play yesterday's game and even after the game,' Kouka said via X on Sunday night. 'But Yesterday's match was incredibly important for our club, our fans and I couldn't abandon my team mates in the most important game of the season, I gave everything on the pitch for the team, as I always do, but I also had to find a way to stay true to my personal and religious beliefs,' the Egyptian international added. The 32-year-old Kouka, who joined Le Havre last January from Portuguese side Rio Ave, found his new team struggling at the bottom of the table upon his arrival, but things improved with time. On Saturday, Kouka came off the bench in the 63rd minute to score for Le Havre, but VAR disallowed the goal, ending the game in a 2-3 win for his team, which avoided relegation and ensured a place in the top flight competition next season. French giants PSG secured their fourth successive Ligue 1 title this season, ending the competition with 84 points from 34 games. Egyptian striker Mostafa Mohamed, who plays for French side Nantes was in the same situation, but unlike Kouka and as usual for him, he refused to play on the same match day for the third successive season. Mohamed was fined by his club for after his early announcement that he will not play Saturday's game against Montpellier. Moreover, Aurore Bergé, the French Minister for Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination, has called for sanctions against Mohamed. From his side, Kouka said that he had his way of rejection regardless of abandoning the game. 'The league chose to impose a logo that represents a cause I respectfully do not support due to my faith. I made the decision to cover the logo, not out of disrespect toward anyone but to protect my conscience and remain true to my principles,' Kouka explained. 'I believe that support for any cause should come from the heart and be a matter of personal choice, not a forced obligation,' he added. Kouka finally called for mutual respect regardless of differences of orientation. 'Respect must go both ways. just as we are asked to respect others, we ask for our beliefs and values to be respected too,' he said. 'I know some people will disagree with my decision, but I acted with sincerity, respect, and a clear conscience. 'Let's keep working to create a world where we can live together peacefully, even when we don't all agree,' the former Ahly player concluded. Since his arrival last winter, Kouka has made 16 league appearances for the team, netting three goals, including two crucial ones, in two decisive games against Lens and Monaco. Yacht packed with social media influencers nearly sinks off Miami Beach
A sleek, 63-foot yacht that nearly sank off Miami Beach on Saturday was packed with social media influencers and had 32 people on board when it started taking on water, officials said. The U.S. Coast Guard said the boat started taking on water near Monument Island in Biscayne Bay on Saturday afternoon, prompting a search-and-rescue response from its Sector Miami unit. All 32 people on board were rescued or evacuated without any reported injuries, Petty Officer 3rd Class Nicholas Strasburg said. "We were able to get on scene and thankfully get all these people, these 32 individuals, off this vessel taking on water, with no medical concerns reported," he said. The boat apparently didn't hit bottom. The Coast Guard responders used air bags to raise it and keep it afloat outside boat lanes until its owner makes a decision on its destiny with the help of a salvage company, Strasburg said. Because multiple social media influencers were on board, the aftermath included plenty of videos. One video shows some of those on the boat maintaining a nonchalant attitude, with one man joking the vessel had hit an iceberg, Titanic-style. Onlookers on other vessels also captured video of the struggling yacht, which appeared to be sinking stern-first as some of those aboard grabbed onto it bow. The passenger capacity for the model in question, the Tecnomar Lamborghini 63, varies because it is highly configurable for each buyer: One for sale in the area has a listed capacity of 12; a new one at a dealer in North Miami Beach lists a capacity of 16. Passenger capacity can also depend on layout, comfort considerations, and whether the boat's owners prioritize speed. All, however, have 24 tons of capacity, which experts say is generally a better guide for a boat's ability to handle weight. The Miami Herald reported on Monday that the boat is the same as a 2023 model listed for sale for $4.7 million and featuring a seating capacity of 12. The listing states the boat is not for sale in U.S. waters to a U.S. resident. It's not clear why. A contact for the listing said he had no information about the incident and didn't want to speak. The publication said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the cause of the incident. A spokesperson for the agency did not immediately respond to a request for more information Monday night. This article was originally published on
