Jakson Green bids record low price to supply green ammonia under SIGHT scheme
Agencies Representative Image New Delhi: Jakson Green has emerged as the lowest bidder for supplying 85,000 tonnes of green ammonia under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme with a record price of Rs 50.75/kg for fertilizer firm Coromandel International's Kakinada facility. This is the lowest price discovered in any such tender so far, beating NTPC Renewable Energy's Rs 51.8/kg offer for supply of 70,000 tonnes to Krishna Phoschem's Meghnagar unit in a bid opened earlier this month. The price translates to roughly around $579.24/tonne. Though not directly comparable, the price discovered in the last tender a year ago was at $1,153/tonne on cost and freight (CFR) basis in the H2Global auction. Grey ammonia prices, which are currently trending lower than the clean or green variant, is at about $400/tonne, though it had reached $515/tonne in March, according to industry experts. The tender from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) called for supply of green ammonia across 13 fertiliser plants totalling 724,000 tonnes. The reverse auction for price discovery is being done separately for each plant and in phases because of the complexity of bid evaluation. Procurers enlisted in the bidding document include Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (Iffco) in Kandla, Madras Fertilisers' Manali and Chennai units, Indorama India in Haldia, Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilisers' Panambur unit, and Coromandel International's Visakhapatnam unit among others. SECI anchored the demand aggregation and will sign long-term offtake agreements, providing producers with market certainty over a 10-year contract period. The tender was issued in June 2024 and the last date was July 10 after many extensions over the year. The government is offering financial incentives under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, with production-linked incentives (PLI) of Rs 8.82/kg, Rs 7.06/kg, and Rs 5.30/kg, respectively, for the first three years, amounting to a total support of Rs 1,533.4 crore. India consumes approximately 17-19 million tonnes of ammonia annually, with more than 50% of its hydrogen requirement used in fertiliser production.

Industry sees boost from low green ammonia prices
Synopsis India's first green ammonia auctions have delivered significantly lower prices, giving a push to the country's clean hydrogen plans. NTPC Renewable Energy, ACME Cleantech, and Oriana Power won bids to supply a total of over 200,000 tonnes annually at ₹51.80–₹55.75 per kg under the SIGHT scheme. IANS The low prices for green ammonia, a derivative of green hydrogen, discovered in initial tenders for supply to fertiliser producers provides a much-needed boost and renews focus on its long-term potential, industry experts said. NTPC Renewable Energy won the bid to supply 70,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually at ₹51.80/kg (about $0.62/kg) while ACME Cleantech won the contract for 75,000 tonnes at ₹55.75/kg (around $0.67/kg). Oriana Power will supply 60,000 tonnes. These prices were discovered in reverse auctions for three of the 13 fertiliser units under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme. Demand for these units was aggregated by Solar Energy Corporation of India at 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually. Auctions for the remaining units will continue till this month-end, said a government official."The recent winning auctions for green ammonia and the low price bode well for Indian green hydrogen ecosystem," said Hemant Mallya, fellow, Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW).SECI termed the bids as "globally competitive record-low price", setting new benchmarks for green hydrogen derivatives worldwide. NTPC's price translates to $591/tonne, Acme at $641/tonne and Oriana at $596.23/tonne. Though not directly comparable, the price discovered in the last tender a year ago was at $1,153/tonne on cost and freight (CFR) basis in the H2Global ammonia prices, which are currently trending lower than the clean or green variant, is at about $400/tonne, though it had reached $515/tonne in March, according to industry experts."The competitive tariffs discovered in these auctions are driven by decline in cost of renewable power (including energy storage), electrolysers as well as available Production Linked Incentive (PLI)," said Pranav Master, senior practice leader and director - energy & sustainability at Crisil Intelligence. "These tariffs imply a premium of 15%-25% to grey ammonia, marking a rapid convergence," he added.

PM Surya Ghar scheme benefited 16.5 lakh households, says Minister Pralhad Joshi
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced on Wednesday that the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana ( PMSG:MBY ) has provided rooftop solar installations to approximately 16.51 lakh households across India as of July 2025. The minister provided these figures in a response to a query in the Lok Sabha, highlighting the significant progress of the government's ambitious clean energy initiative. According to Joshi, the National Portal for the scheme has received a total of 58,01,654 applications, with 16,50,969 households having already benefited from the rooftop solar installations. The PMSG:MBY, implemented by the MNRE since February 2024, aims to achieve rooftop solar installations for one crore households in the residential sector by the 2026-27 financial year. While the scheme has seen widespread adoption, there are notable regional variations in its implementation. Data shared by the minister revealed that Maharashtra leads the nation with 2,34,736 rooftop installations, followed closely by Gujarat with 2,28,507 and Uttar Pradesh with 1,20,866. Conversely, some states are lagging behind, with Arunachal Pradesh reporting zero installations, and Meghalaya and Sikkim recording single-digit figures at 6 and 9, respectively. In a related development, the MNRE also announced a green hydrogen mission. The state-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) conducted its first auction for green ammonia procurement under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, receiving a winning bid of ₹55.75 per kilogram.
