9.3 million viewers! Ibai shatters Twitch stream record
New record shatters previous by nearly 6 million
Picture how many people fill the stadium during any given Super Bowl.
Now, picture about 130 of those full stadiums.
That's about how many people watched Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos's Twitch stream on July 26 as he shattered the platform's record for most viewers at one time, according to streaming-data site StreamsCharts.
The record-breaking event was the fifth edition of La Velada del Año (Night of the Year), an annual event hosted by Llanos that features a combination of boxing matches, influencer showdowns, musical performances and celebrity guests.
Spanish newspaper El País reported that 80,000 people attended the event at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, Spain.
Online, the seven-hour stream attracted 9.3 million viewers at its peak, according to StreamsCharts.
That figure shattered the previous record of 3.8 million viewers, also set by Llanos at last year's La Velada del Año event, StreamsCharts said.
TwitchTracker, another popular website for streaming metrics, recorded the new record at 9.1 million concurrent viewers.
CBC Kids News reached out to Twitch to confirm these numbers and has not yet heard back.
