Leeds ‘fear' Pascal Struijk out for season with foot fracture

Leeds United head coach Daniel Farke said the club 'fear' Pascal Struijk has fractured his foot, an injury which would rule the defender out for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old, who has played in 35 of Leeds' 40 Championship matches this season, has been a pivotal figure in Farke's defence which has conceded just 28 league goals. Advertisement Struijk was withdrawn in the 86th minute of Leeds' 1-1 draw against Luton Town on Saturday. 'Rothwell will be out this week and probably also for the Easter weekend,' Farke said on Monday. 'Struijk needs to wait for further assessment, the fear is it might be a fracture, which would mean his season is over, but definitely out for next two games.' Should Struijk be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, it would be a blow to Leeds' promotion hopes. With six matches of the season remaining, Leeds sit in third, two points off Championship leaders Burnley. Max Wober replaced Struijk against Luton, with either the Austria international or Ethan Ampadu Farke's options to replace the Dutchman. Club captain Ampadu returned from a five-game absence due to a knee injury in Leeds' 2-2 draw against Swansea City on March 29, playing as a defensive midfielder against the Welsh side and against Luton. Farke's side have dropped out of the automatic promotion spots following a run of form which saw them win once in six matches. Leeds have drawn each of their last three Championship games. They return to action on Tuesday with a trip to fifth-placed Middlesbrough. ()

'We had luck on our side'

Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk says high energy and "a little bit of luck" helped the side move back to the top of the Championship with a 2-0 win over was a first win in three matches for the league leaders, who saw their 17 game unbeaten streak ended by Portsmouth on Saturday following a competitive 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at the start of the month."We wanted to show more energy, especially," Struijk told BBC Radio Leeds. "I felt like the last game was a little bit flat and there were moments as well in the West Brom game where after we scored, we got a little bit flat."The Whites led from the third minute when Manor Solomon's cut-back deflected off Millwall defender Jake Cooper and into the then went onto to seal the win with Ao Tanaka's strike from the edge of the box."I'm happy that we got the luck on our side tonight," Struijk added."It's been frustrating when you have so many chances like on the weekend and you don't finish them off, so to get this little bit of luck to start us off straightaway, it's always nice."You can listen to Struijk's full post-match reaction and more on the Don't Go To Bed Yet podcast.

Leeds take big step to Premier League promotion, Barca go top; Alcaraz through

Published: 8:30am, 18 Feb 2025 Leeds United took a huge step towards a return to the English Premier League after Pascal Struijk's dramatic 95th-minute winner defeated Championship-promotion rivals Sunderland 2-1 at Elland Road. Dutch defender Struijk was the unlikely hero with both Leeds goals despite only playing the final 20 minutes as a substitute. Wilson Isidor had fired Sunderland in front with his 12th goal of the season before half-time. But the Black Cats' chances of automatic promotion are beginning to fade as Leeds and Sheffield United pull away at the top of the table. Struijk began the fightback when he headed in fellow substitute Joe Rothwell's enticing free-kick on 78 minutes. The same duo combined for the winner as another dangerous cross from Rothwell left the centre-back with an easy finish to head into an unguarded net with the final act of the game.
