Ikea plans to scale up India sourcing
Swedish home décor and furniture brand Ikea is set to increase its local sourcing in India from 30% to 50% for its domestic retail operations, a move that positions the country as a critical hub in the company's global supply chain and retail expansion plans. 'India is a focus market for us,' said Ikea's head of sustainability for supply at Inter Ikea Group Christina Niemel Ström, Indian Retailer Bureau reported. Ström added that the scale-up would support both local retail growth and employment generation across the value chain. India currently ranks among Ikea's top ten sourcing markets, contributing around € 400 million annually in exports. The current sourcing portfolio includes textiles, plastics, and metals, with upcoming expansion into sofas, mattresses, and storage furniture. 'We aim to increase local sourcing, create products in India for both domestic and global customers, and drive job creation across the supply chain,' said Ström. Ikea, which has sourced from India for over 50 years, entered the Indian retail market in 2018 and now operates stores in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, and Bengaluru, with new locations planned for Delhi NCR, ET Retail previously reported. Ikea's supply operations in India currently involve nearly 3.7 lakh workers, including those at Tier 2 supplier levels. The company also promotes sustainable cotton farming through partnerships with over 1.1 lakh farmers.

IKEA to amplify sourcing from India for global operations, to increase local sourcing to 50%
New Delhi, Jun 1 (PTI) India is a "focus market" for the Swedish global home decor and furniture retailer IKEA, where it is increasing sourcing for its global operations and increasing local sourcing to 50 per cent, from the current 30 per cent, for the domestic retail business, a top company official said. The move will help to cater local retail and global operations, and will also generate more jobs across the supply chain, said Christina Niemelä Ström, Head of Sustainability for Supply, Inter IKEA Group. India is "in the top 10 of our sourcing countries" list, from where it is procuring products worth around 400 million euros for its global retail operations, Ström told PTI in an interaction. IKEA's current sourcing basket includes textiles, plastics, and metals, among others, and the company plans to add more items. "Our aim to source more product categories such as sofas, mattresses and storage furniture from the country now,' said Ström, adding "Inter IKEA Group has identified India as a focus market this year and we aim to increase local sourcing (from 30 per cent to 50 per cent), create products from India to cater to local and global customers and generate more jobs across the supply chain.' Presently, Europe is IKEA's biggest supplier, followed by America and Asia, in which China leads. IKEA has been sourcing from India for the last five decades, though it started its retail operation in India in 2018 by opening its first store at Hyderabad, followed by Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru and several others such as Delhi NCR, are in the execution pipeline. "We have had a love affair with India...," she said, adding, "India will remain important for us". According to Strom, IKEA Group is here "for the long term" and already has "a very big belief" in the country. "We have suppliers that we have worked with since the start," she said, adding, "we grow together. I think also the growth for IKEA in India is also happening when India is growing and developing." IKEA, which is working with 1.10 lakh farmers here for sustainable sourcing of cotton, helping them with practices such as reducing usage of pesticides, fertiliser and water. "Well, it means for the farmer also that they actually get higher yields by this. So they get more money in their pockets, and we get a better product. So here sustainability is not driving cost, said Strom, while responding to a query as to whether these sustainable practices increase the cost. Through its supply business, IKEA has close to 1,00,000 coworkers at direct suppliers in India and around 2,70,000 at tier 2 suppliers. "Today, more than 1,10,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects. The cotton used at IKEA comes from virgin cotton certified by our approved schemes," she said, adding IKEA is committed to halving emissions by 2030 and becoming net-zero by 2050. Inter IKEA Group is the group of companies that connects IKEA franchisees with range development and suppliers, and aligns the overall IKEA strategic direction. The Group includes Inter IKEA Systems BV – the worldwide IKEA franchisor – as well as range development, supply and certain industry activities.

Unseen footage of Led Zeppelin performing in Denmark has surfaced after 45 years

Newly unearthed Super 8 footage of Led Zeppelin performing in Denmark in 1979 has surfaced online, giving a candid taste of what watching the band at their peak was like. Shot by Led Zep fan and filmmaker Lennart Ström on a camera he snuck into Copenhagen's Falkoner Theater on July 24, the film had sat idle in a drawer for 45 years before getting a carefully executed glow-up. The shows came on the eve of the band's iconic Knebworth sets, with the two dates in the Danish capital acting as warm-ups for the main events. Ström's 13-minute, set-traversing footage serves as a stunning time capsule of the night. Notably, the footage was captured without audio as Ström was only filming the snippets of the show to test the camera out. The Dane says he'd occasionally showcased the footage to friends during the intervening years, but it has remained largely unseen. That was until he told the Heart of Markness podcast – which had run an episode on Zeppelin's Copenhagen shows – of its existence. That led to the clip's revival at the hands of Reel Revival Film and the Pink Floyd Research Group – which played its part in reviving fan-shot footage of David Gilmour and Pink Floyd performing in 1975. Together, the parties have digitized and color-corrected the footage, and paired it with audio recordings from the show. The finished film has been uploaded to YouTube by the channel ledzepfilm and features a plethora of Led Zep classics. It kicks off with The Song Remains the Same, during which Jimmy Page makes light work of his legendary twin-neck Gibson EDS-1275, and later takes in Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, and Kashmir. There's also a guitar solo, unleashed by Page on his 'Number 1' Les Paul, which is given a stirring visual accompaniment via a laser display that also sees Page playing with a violin bow that looks like a lightsabre. Other bands, such as The Who, were already incorporating lasers into their live shows by this time, but Zeppelin were reportedly one of the first to use a high-powered laser. However, it often wreaked havoc with venues, which the band had learned the hard way the night before. 'We brought the Super 8 camera to test a new film that would work indoors,' Ström tells Led Zeppelin News. 'It was no problem getting the camera in. It was quite small and I think I had it in my trousers. 'The gig the night before was, according to the papers, a disaster due to the electric failures that the laser had brought,' he continues. 'So there were generators standing in the alley we passed before going in. We didn't understand why they were there, but I remembered from the army that [they were] generators. So we were of course concerned about the gig.' Footage of a thankfully uninterrupted solo shows that the generators weren't needed, but had likely been drafted in as a precautionary measure. It seems the force was with them on the night. 'I have kept this film in a drawer all the years,' Ström says. 'I showed it to some friends, guitarists who went nuts. And that was the silent version.' The film's release comes just after the cinematic release of Becoming Led Zeppelin, a brand-new tell-all documentary on the band's rise. Last year, unseen footage of the band's record-breaking show at the Pontiac Dome in 1977 surfaced online.

See lost footage of Led Zeppelin playing Denmark in 1979
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Never-before-seen footage of Led Zeppelin performing in Denmark in 1979 has surfaced online. The fan-shot movie, captured on Super 8 film during the band's July 24 show at the Falkoner Theater in Copenhagen, had been stored in a drawer for the past 45 years. Danish Led Zeppelin fan Lennart Ström revealed the film's existence last year on the Heart of Markness podcast website in response to an episode covering the two Copenhagen shows, which Zeppelin booked as warm-up concerts for their two Knebworth dates. Until then, Ström had only shown the footage — which was filmed without audio — to friends. The U.S.-based Reel Revival Film has since digitized the footage and had it color corrected by the Pink Floyd Research Group. The visuals have also been paired with audio recordings from the night. The 13-minute movie, which is now available to watch online via the ledzepfilm YouTube channel, features snippets of 17 classic hits, including 'Nobody's Fault but Mine,' 'Black Dog' and 'Whole Lotta Love." It also includes a clip of Jimmy Page playing a guitar solo. The film begins with the band swinging through 'The Song Remains the Same' as an energetic Page wields his twin-neck Gibson ED-1275. His 'Number 1' Les Paul — a guitar Joe Walsh convinced him to buy — also makes an appearance. 'We brought the Super 8 camera to test a new film that would work indoors,' Ström tells Led Zeppelin News. 'It was no problem getting the camera in. It was quite small and I think I had it in my trousers on my back." Led Zeppelin's show included a laser light cone pyramid display, which was used to spotlight Page during the violin bow segment of his guitar solo. While other large touring acts, like the Who, had begun using lasers in the 1970s, Zeppelin were the first to use a high-powered laser, which unfortunately could cause problems with voltage, as it did during the Copenhagen stop. 'The gig the night before was, according to the papers, a disaster due to the electric failures that the laser had brought,' Ström continues. 'So there were generators standing in the alley we passed before going in. We were of course concerned about the gig. 'I have kept this film in a drawer all the years. I made a digital copy and showed it to some friends, guitarists who went nuts. And that was the silent version.' The release of the footage is timely, coming right after the cinematic release of the new documentary, 'Becoming Led Zeppelin,' during which Page calls their first jam session together 'devastating.' The band split up just a year after the Knebworth shows in the wake of John Bonham's passing, with a triumphant 2007 reunion the only Led Zep shows to have happened since.
