Oh, Rats! Is Your State Vulnerable For Indoor Pests?
Source: Alexander Pytskiy / Getty He's a cute little critter, ain't he? Well, maybe not so much. The above stock photo of a modelesque mouse with a humanlike smirk that calls to mind Stuart Little is unfortunately a sign for high alarm across America following a new report from Home Gnome that gives insight into the most vulnerable states for indoor pests in 2025. For a detailed reminder on what you're going up against this season, take a look below at a deep dive that PBS did last month during the start of spring cleaning: RELATED: Spring Cleaning for Your Finances—Rubber Gloves Not Required According to research provided by Home Gnome, the usual suspects are still the ones to watch out for. Rats have a population exceeding 10 million in at least four states, mosquitoes have over 50 species making rounds throughout 34 states, over 400 spider species are crawling through 11 different states and when it comes to flea & tick season, well, that simply never ends in 12 states. Take a look at a better breakdown below, via Home Gnome : 'From 9-inch centipedes crawling through Hawaiian homes to 20 million rats roaming New York, America's pest problem is bigger (and weirder) than you think. In 2025, Florida takes the top spot for indoor infestations, but states like bat-friendly Texas, Georgia, and Arizona aren't far behind, thanks to mosquito swarms, aggressive termites, and creepy crawlies hiding in walls, attics, and closets.' If you're living in any of the states listed below, you can breathe a little bit easier. It's worth noting that a high risk rank actually correlates to a lower overall score on the scale of infestation probability: 50. Alaska – 17.58 (Risk Rank: 50 ) 49. Wyoming – 23.01 ( Risk Rank: 49 ) 48. Idaho – 23.11 ( Risk Rank: 41 ) 47. North Dakota – 25.53 ( Risk Rank: 47 ) 46. Montana – 26.03 ( Risk Rank: 46 ) 45. Hawaii – 27.46 ( Risk Rank: 48 ) 44. Maine – 30.36 ( Risk Rank: 43 ) 43. Vermont – 31.09 ( Risk Rank: 45 ) 42. Oregon – 31.15 ( Risk Rank: 40 ) 41. South Dakota – 31.34 ( Risk Rank: 42 ) 40. Utah – 32.21 ( Risk Rank: 31 ) 39. Nevada – 33.70 ( Risk Rank: 28 ) 38. New Mexico – 34.51 ( Risk Rank: 21 ) 37. New Hampshire – 35.25 ( Risk Rank: 44 ) 36. Washington – 35.28 ( Risk Rank: 37 ) 35. Oklahoma – 35.75 ( Risk Rank: 25 ) 34. Arizona – 36.64 ( Risk Rank: 12 ) 33. Delaware – 36.68 ( Risk Rank: 39 ) 32. Colorado – 36.87 ( Risk Rank: 30 ) 31. Arkansas – 37.31 ( Risk Rank: 22 ) 30. West Virginia – 38.52 ( Risk Rank: 36 ) 29. Kansas – 38.91 ( Risk Rank: 32 ) 28. Minnesota – 39.59 ( Risk Rank: 34 ) 27. Michigan – 40.36 ( Risk Rank: 33 ) 26. Tennessee – 40.40 ( Risk Rank: 18 ) As for the rest of you, we will not be gatekeeping this information in the least bit. Below you'll find the 25 states (from greatest risk to least) when it comes to the most vulnerable in America for indoor pest infestation. You can head over to Home Gnome for the state-by-state specifics. Good luck! Keep scrolling to see if your state is vulnerable for indoor pests in 2025: Black America Web Featured Video CLOSE

Former child star Jonathan Lipnicki's heartbreaking admission
Former child star Jonathan Lipnicki is dissatisfied with the state of his career — but he still has options. 'To be quite honest, I said no to about five movies in the last year,' the Jerry Maguire star, 34, shared in a new interview with People, published this week. Lipnicki admitted that he is relying on his faith to 'turn this ship around' so that he lands acting projects that better align with what he wants. 'I pray every night for clarity on where I need to go, and I'm confident the best is yet to come for me,' the Stuart Little star continued. 'And I think you just have to believe that.' He added, 'If you're going to pursue this, you're doing yourself a disservice not to dream big.' Although he is not completely fulfilled career-wise, Lipnicki said he thinks it's 'totally fine' to think that. 'Everything we're doing in this life is nearly impossible,' the star said. 'This is the thing I want to do for the rest of my life, and I think you just have to believe it's going to happen and do everything in your power to take action in the right direction.' Lipnicki recently acted in a TV show titled The Joe Schmo Show — where he plays a fictionalised, egotistical version of himself — and he considered that a 'step in the right direction,' as it challenged him. 'As an actor growing up in this industry, you want to be on your best behaviour, and I got to be on my worst,' he said. 'There was something empowering about that in a weird way.' Lipnicki's trajectory from child stardom has been a journey. In 2017, he confessed his peers had bullied him because they considered him a 'has-been.' He suffered from anxiety and depression as a result. 'I was told I was a has-been and would never book a job again,' the 'Little Vampire' star wrote in an emotional post via Instagram at the time. 'I was made to feel like garbage every day of middle school to the point where I had a panic attack every night before school, because I wondered how I would get through the next day.' He said the mean behaviour continued into high school, which he found to be 'humiliating.' However, Lipnicki reflected at the time, 'I am grateful for the amazing life I have and I hope I can pass on that it DOES get better.'

Iconic child star Jonathan Lipnicki shares heartbreaking career update after costarring with Tom Cruise
The beloved child star Jonathan Lipnicki gave a dispiriting update on the status of his career in a new interview. Lipnicki, 34, is best known for going toe-to-toe with star Tom Cruise in the Oscar-winning blockbuster Jerry Maguire (1996). 'I had some really good things that happened when I was younger,' the former child actor admitted while speaking with People. But he described a bumpy road to becoming a successful adult actor, even after he recently attempted a career comeback. 'It's totally fine to say I'm not where I want to be career-wise,' he said, adding that he's 'all right' with the state of his career at the moment. 'Everything we're doing in this life is nearly impossible.' Lipnicki called acting 'the thing I want to do for the rest of my life,' and said, 'I think you just have to believe it's going to happen and do everything in your power to take action in the right direction.' Lipnicki followed up his star-making turn in Jerry Maguire with a major supporting parts in Stuart Little (1999) and Stuart Little 2 (2002) — which featured the voice of Michael J. Fox as the eponymous mouse — as well as a role in 2002's Like Mike, among other films. However, his output in the 2000s slowed to a trickle as he took time off from acting to make high school his primary focus. Afterward, he devoted himself more seriously to his craft by taking acting classes, which he called the 'best thing' he could have done for his career. Since honing his acting skills, Lipnicki has largely nabbed roles in small independent films, as opposed to the big-budget, major studio releases that he primarily appeared in as a child. He also diversified his acting work by starting to take on stage roles around LA, and more recently he has begun working behind the camera as a producer. He managed to develop an enviable physique in recent years thanks to mixed martial arts (MMA) training, as his family owns a company that promotes MMA fights. However, he has resisted the temptation to pursue MMA fighting headlong, as acting seems to still be his overriding passion. He has been wildly prolific since focusing again on acting. He had two films released in 2016, but in 20187 he appeared in a whopping six features and one short film. Since then, he has appeared in just one or two films per year, aside from a fallow period in the first years of the Covid-19 pandemic. He appeared earlier this year on the TBS comedy series The Joe Schmo Show, in which people are pranked into thinking they're appearing on a reality show — even though it's fake. Lipnicki said he enjoyed playing an ego-driven version of himself; seen on The Joe Schmo Show Lipnicki said his guest appearance on the TBS revival of The Joe Schmo Show — in which people are misled into believing they are appearing on a fake reality series — has now become one of the things he is most 'proud' of. He plays himself on the show, but in name only, as his character is a comical, ego-driven version of the former child star. The actor said the show, which forced him to get outside of his 'comfort zone,' is a 'step in the right direction' for his career. Although the most in-demand actors tend to be those who are most professional on set, Lipnicki enjoyed getting a chance to be on his 'worst' behavior. 'There was something empowering about that in a weird way.' The longtime actor told People his career was now 'half-and-half' as an adult, with half of his projects being more forgettable, while he thought the other half were solid films — even though few people have seen them. Lipnicki was careful to say that he had 'no regrets' about other the films he has appeared in as an adult, but he also admitted that he needed to be 'careful' about what projects he signs on to going forward. He admitted to turning down around five films he was offered in the past year in order to focus more on quality projects. 'I just really want to turn this ship around,' he admitted. 'I pray every night for clarity on where I need to go, and I'm confident the best is yet to come for me,' Lipnicki continued. 'And I think you just have to believe that. If you're going to pursue this, you're doing yourself a disservice not to dream big.'
