Jenna Ortega: 'Not having a voice terrifies me'
Jenna Ortega became "very insecure" and didn't know how to "express myself" after some "difficult" work situations early on in her career. The Wednesday star first gained recognition as the younger version of Jane in The CW comedy-drama series Jane the Virgin between 2014 and 2019, before her award-winning leading role as Harley Diaz in the Disney Channel series Stuck in the Middle, and has starred in huge Hollywood productions (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Death of a Unicorn), as well as playing the titular character of Wednesday Addams in the hit Netflix series. And while reflecting on her early days in the acting business, the 22-year-old former child star admitted there were times when she "shut myself away" out of fear of saying the wrong thing. She told Vogue México and Latin America's September issue: 'Being young and assertive is intense for a lot of people, as a woman. I've always known what it's like to not have a voice, and that terrifies me. 'I don't want to be in that situation again. "But for me, it's just about making sure I use my voice in the most professional, efficient, and kind way possible.' She continued: 'For most of my career, I didn't know how to express myself. 'I was very young, I didn't know anything about the industry, perhaps because of certain professional experiences I'd had in the past that were a little more difficult. 'I shut myself away and became very insecure about my place.' Of her childhood, she said: "I used to be a very extroverted child, but I've become more reserved. "It doesn't mean something negative. It just means I choose my words carefully."

"There's Just Something About It That's Very Patronizing": Jenna Ortega Spoke About Wearing A Schoolgirl Outfit In "Wednesday"
One person who didn't want Wednesday to be quite so popular was series lead Jenna Ortega — at least, according to a new profile. The interview comes ahead of the release of Season 2 of the hit Netflix series in August. The success of the first season shouldn't be understated, as it quickly became one of the most popular English-language series on Netflix of all time. Though she had been acting since she was a child, beforehand, Jenna was best known for her roles in horror movies (or, for the connoisseurs in the room, the Disney series Stuck in the Middle). In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, Jenna said that she initially didn't want to take on the role due to the time commitment making television takes. "I was getting to this point in my career where I was doing movies and getting in the rooms,' she said. "So I kept telling everyone no. I almost didn't want to hear what Tim [Burton] had to say, and really like it, and feel like I needed to do it — which is kind of what happened.' "To be quite frank, after the show and trying to figure everything out, I was an unhappy person,' she continued. 'After the pressure, the attention — as somebody who's quite introverted, that was so intense and so scary.' Thankfully, things have gotten better with Season 2, as Jenna is a producer and the shooting location has moved from Romania to Dublin. However, she is still concerned that the role may affect her future casting as a person in their early 20s. 'I'm doing a show I'm going to be doing for years where I play a schoolgirl,' she continued. 'But I'm also a young woman.' She further echoed Natalie Portman's thoughts on the difficulties of being a child actor and then a short adult. 'I relate to that so immensely, and it's always been really annoying, because you just don't feel like you're being taken seriously,' Jenna explained, noting that there can be pressure on girls to remain frozen at a certain age. 'You know, it's like how you're dressed in the schoolgirl costume. … There's just something about it that's very patronizing. Also, when you're short, people are already physically looking down on you.' One thing Jenna does like about the character Wednesday is her honesty. "I mean, God, if you could speak to everybody like Wednesday — just say what you truly mean — it would be amazing!' she explained. 'It's pretty funny, when you think about it. She's an outsider, but now she's on these mugs, cereal boxes, and T-shirts. You're just thinking, Oh, man, she would hate this!' I saw one of such T-shirts just this morning. Jenna further emphasized that she's "grateful" for her audience — but excited to take on roles that are "older and bolder and different." You can read more here.

Justin Bieber slammed for inappropriate comment on Ariana Greenblatt's Instagram post
Pop superstar Justin Bieber is facing criticism after posting a comment on 17-year-old actress Ariana Greenblatt's Instagram post, prompting accusations of inappropriate behavior. The controversy has sparked a wider conversation about the boundaries of social media interactions between celebrities and minors. Greenblatt, known for her roles in Barbie, Avengers: Infinity War, and Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle, shared a promotional photo for her upcoming Netflix horror film Fear Street: Prom Queen on May 24. In her post, she expressed excitement about the movie, writing, 'Fear Street: Prom Queen is out now on Netflix!!! Horror had always been one of my favorite genres and to have this movie be my introduction into the world was an honor. Long live Christy Renault.' What garnered attention, however, was Bieber's comment underneath the post: 'I love youuuuuuuuu.' While some fans saw this as a harmless show of support, many others found it problematic due to Greenblatt's age (17) and Bieber's marital status. The comment quickly drew criticism from users who deemed it inappropriate. One user wrote, 'She's 17. You're a grown man. This is weird,' while another added, 'You're married, bro. What are you doing?' Critics were particularly vocal about the potential implications of Bieber's behavior, with many expressing concern over the power dynamics in celebrity relationships and the appropriateness of public interactions between adults and minors on social media. Not everyone agreed with the backlash. Some fans came to Bieber's defense, arguing that his comment was simply an expression of admiration for Greenblatt's work. One supporter remarked, 'He's just showing her love, lmao. If you have a problem with that, go judge the other adults in the comments showing her love.' The situation highlights the blurred lines in modern celebrity culture, where social media interactions are often scrutinized by the public. Social media etiquette expert Dr. Lisa Reynolds explains, 'While public figures often engage with their fans in the form of comments, it's important to remember that context matters, especially when minors are involved. Celebrities, like Bieber, have a responsibility to be mindful of the messages they send, even in seemingly innocent interactions.' Greenblatt has built a strong reputation as one of Hollywood's most promising young actresses. Her standout performances in Avengers: Infinity War and Barbie earned her critical acclaim, and her rapid rise has made her a popular figure on social media, where she currently boasts 3.8 million followers.
