Schools ideal platform to foster unity among youths, says Miri mayor

MIRI (July 13): Schools remain the most effective platform for nurturing the spirit of unity among young Malaysians, said Mayor Adam Yii.
Speaking at the 'Student Integration Plan for Unity' (RIMUP) at SMK St Joseph here yesterday, Yii emphasised that unity must be cultivated from a young age, and that schools should provide the ideal environment to instil in the children values of tolerance, respect, and harmony.
'Unity does not come naturally. It must be nurtured, cultivated and sustained through continuous effort,' he said.
'Schools, as second homes to our children, are the best places to build these values and bridge cultural and racial differences.'
On RIMUP, an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Yii acknowledged that it meant to strengthen national integration and foster student identity through inclusive activities that transcended racial and cultural boundaries.
The Pujut assemblyman expressed confidence that initiatives such as RIMUP would empower students to form healthy, harmonious relationships, and help them grow into responsible and open-minded citizens.
He also encouraged students to seize the opportunity to build new friendships, embrace cultural differences, and internalise the spirit of unity at the half-day event, which was also attended by parents and alumni.
